ADSL Modem & Wireless Router "without" Firewall
Hello Everyone,
I have searched and searched a lot with no results whatsoever.
Wireless Router with ADSL Modem (PPoE) which does NOT have a firewall in it - if it does have, one way to shut it off completely.
And added bonus would be VPN (PPTP) pass-though inbuilt (termination point of stunnel). But its something, I can live without.
Please, please let me know there exists one such modem router. I don't want to use alternatives such as NAT and Virtual Server/ Port Forwarding and such crap - just sick of it.
Regards,
Ganesh

Isn't one of the features of most routers a firewall? I don't know much about networking hardware specifically.
I know that my mother has an ADSL Modem that has PPoE set up and I went into the device configuration and made it act as a "dumb modem" where it just directly passed all information back and forth without monitoring or blocking any of it.
I can get you the model if you want.

Well, yes. Most routers have a firewall and people pay extra to get a router with a firewall.
But here, I need a modem and just a modem. Nothing more and nothing less. It just needs to authenticate into my ISP's systems via PPoE and thats it.
I guess, I could use a managed switch to control the outbound data from the modem. But for now, I'd appreciate it if you could get me the model/brand of this modem your mother uses.

If you have a spare box somewhere with a modem, install OpenBSD and install PPPoE.

Mate, this is ADSL - not your typical dial up. If I had the ADSL modem, I wouldn't be posting around here.

Hello,
The best DSL modem with a great to use interface is the Thompson speedtouch 516 DSL modem. It can support high speeds, you can turn off the firewall, enable/disable ports easy etc. It is the best DSL modem on the market.

edit I forgot you wanted wireless and router capability, in that case you'd want http://www.thomson.net/GlobalEnglish...s/default.aspx same interface to disable firewall.

I've not seen a DSL modem/router that you couldn't turn off or bypass the firewall

802.11g, 4port 10/100, supports bridge mode
Not very expensive (at least here in Canuckville)
