    USB stick as virtual CD

    Hello,

I have a server, with KVM over IP but without virtual media.

It would be nice if i can install the OS from a usb stick but i have some requirements:

It has to be some sort of net install since i cannot update the USB stick in the future, but it has to install each time the newest OS version.

It also would be very nice if i can choose between different OS’es

    for example:

    [1] Newest CentOS version
    [2] Newest Fedora version
    [3] Newest Debian version

Etc, i am still learning, so it would be helpful for me to learn different distributions.

Can someone help me with this?

    Thank you.

Is this for sort of a colo box where you are installing the OS remotely? If so you could say get a diskboot.img from a centos mirror and install from that. Once installed you could update the USB stick from the OS

    Kev,

I think what a2b2 was referring to was "most" hosting companies consider your server colocated if you change your OS on their managed config.

I don't know what you mean but this is the situation:

I have a dedicated server and i'm testing different things on it. Sometimes i'm a little bit to fast and than it isn't working any more. The provider has no installation services (only by hand) so i need to request one which can costs money (depends on the date and time). I have KVM over ip, but there is no disc player in de server. They will connect the usb stick if i make one so i can reinstall by myself via KVM over ip.

I hope this is a better explanation?
