Are your DNS servers down? Don't let it happen again!

As a lot of people were involved in The Planet's outage this week, which took down their DNS servers, we need to remind people how important it is NOT to rely on your hosting providers DNS servers.

Why? I only have servers at one location, why does it matter if they go down?

    The main reason is e-mail.

Let's say someone tries to email you, if all of your DNS servers are down, that email is going to bounce.

However, if your DNS servers are still up, but your mail server is down, the remote mail server will "grab" your mail server IP, and put it in the their outgoing queue and try to continue resending for 5 days.

So what should you do about it? Well for one, don't host your DNS servers in the same location!

http://www.editdns.net offers free DNS hosting to anyone, we've been in business for about 7 years now, we have over 40k domains, 30k customers. We are not new to the business. We know what we are doing. EditDNS has 5 nameservers, 3 in the United States, and 2 in Europe, we offer free email forwarding, url forwarding, slave/backup dns, and dyndns DNS.

Don't let another outage hurt your business again.

    Hello!

I'm interested in eliminating the "single point of failure" and also protect my email from downtime of my main server.

Can somebody help me in solving this with the service provided in this page?

    Thank you!

Can you so, how do setup my backup dns?

In your knowledgebase base it says,

Setting up backup DNS is fairly simple.

    1) Login to your EditDNS account
    2) Click on the domain you wish to setup backup DNS for
    3) Click on the "Enable Backup DNS" link under Additional Services
    4) Add the IP/Hostname of your master nameserver.
    5) Configure your master nameserver to allow updates from our nameservers:

    69.46.16.248
    74.52.212.235
    72.249.105.234
    64.251.10.77
    87.239.16.157
    91.186.15.45
    174.138.160.2

That's it! We will start to grab the domain from your master!
can you tell how do i complete the 5th step?

This looks like a very useful service and the subscription is very cheap. I will be moving my personal domains there soon.

Been using EditDNS for several months now for a couple 'mission critical' domains and could not be happier.

    Highly recommended

    Hi
I have a question. We have been using the Managed DNS service providing by our domain registrar which actually comes free of charge. What advantage are there with editdns.net over this DNS service offered by our domain registrar ?
