    P4 & 1u

Can the P4 be suffiecently cooled in a 1U at full cpu utilization?

(If So) Does anybody have any fans they can recommended for P4 and 1U?

We put a P4 in a 1U and it got very hot, too hot for us to be happy with it to be honest.

    Cheers,
Im a big fan of SM products.

    Workstation:

    Server:

Though I dont like their cases (purly for color, they are great, but they just look ugly), I much prefer these:

When shopping for a 1U case, you have to be really careful where the CPU is and makes sure the case has more than adequet cooling.

    Good luck!

I've fallen out with SM since one of their mobos died 16 months after purchase, they couldn't care less.

I somehow got an engineering smaple of their dual Xeon boards before they came out. They wanted that back badly.

Aside form that, I havent had any problems with them. Havent had to send back a thing.

YMMV I guess. Sorry to hear.

That's probably the case, but the 20 HSF we used died after a week non stop - good job it was on a bench being burnt in.

As for SM mobos, we've got quite a few, but we shan't be adding any more.

You have quite a few and only 1 went bad after a year and half and you've written the company off after that?

To me that sounds like a pretty good track record.

I would be interested to know what mobos do you use now?

We have quite a few SMs, but only 1 was actually being used at the time, the others haven't been used yet.

Right now we have quite a few Tyan mobos with 3 year warranty on them, we have Thunder LE (Dual P3) and Thunder LET (Dual P3 inc. Tualatin).

    SuperMicro P4 1U

I've had a P4 SuperMicro system up and running in a load test scenario for about 30 days now. I've had nothing but great success with this machine. In real world test cases, this server has actually run cooler than the IBM xSeries 300 and 330 servers. The cooling layout and design in these machines is more than sufficient for a 1U server design.

Here is a breakdown of the hardware I've been testing.
    http://supermicro.com/PRODUCT/SUPERS...ver5012B-E.htm
Intel Pentium 4 1.7ghz (Retail Box - Non OEM)
    512mb Kingston RAM (KVR133X64C3/256)
    Western Digital 60gb (WD600AB)
