* PayPal have sent over 1200 e-mails for the same transaction HELP!

This is getting really annoying now.

PayPal have for some reason managed to send me a confirmation e-mail for the same transaction over and over and over.

Before you ask, it's an error at their end not mine as they all have unique @paypal.com messsage IDs, and the transaction date in the e-mail changes every day.

Please see the following screenshot to see what I mean:

http://seany.us/random/paypal_spam.png

I have contacted paypal by their contact form and by telephone. Absolutely nothing has been done.

I received the following response to the web form on the 19th of May and nothing has been fixed:

Code:
Thank you for contacting PayPal. My name is Bell. I hope everything is well
with you and happy to assist you today. I apologize for the delay and I am
hoping for your understanding.

I understand that you recieve a plenty of email notification from us.

Mr. McRobbie, since our system currently updating that might the email
notification could only be send once. No need to worry I will forward this
issue on a relevant department so they can resolve this issue as soon as
our system will be active.

If you have question, please feel free to contact us at your convenient
time.

We value your business with us and have a good one.

Sincerely,
Bell
PayPal European Services
PayPal, an eBay Company
As you can see I am getting nowhere in the battle with PayPal. Does anyone have ANY idea what I should do next?

Hello,

Can you ask them if they are willing to talk to me on IRC about it?

Are the transactions going through on your PayPal account? Meaning is it continuously charging you $5.00 or is it showing as just one transaction on your account itself?

If it is just one transaction, it is surely a PayPal problem. Although if it is charging you over and over, it could be a possible exploit or security breach. Just a thought.

Yep, this is happening to me as well.

It's really pathetic. Their support are (obviously) no help at all; they just say it's a known issue and they're working hard on fixing it. Yeah right, it's been almost a week for me.

One transaction, thousands of e-mails (at least with me!)

We have a lot of customers receiving hundreds of the same notification emails.

Also we have some subscriptions which are stuck and not actually moving the funds. Some failed subscriptions with retry dates going back to 18th of May sat saying that the next retry will be on the 18th of May.

Sent them many emails but no response.

Also we are having lots of new payments where no notification email at all is being sent to us, which is causing some concern as we are assuming some orders have gone unpaid when actually they have paid and we have to login and manually check them.

I recommend you all start to check your subscriptions etc until this miss is fixed.

Seems back on the 18th when paypal.com was down with a 500 error for some time, they really screwed some things up!

I had the same exact problem as the OP, and it has been going on for a week now. I called them the previous week and they said they are working on it, but till today, I'm still receiving 1000s of email receipts within the space of a day. Hopefully Paypal will get this sorted out soon before it gets worse.

I think they've got this sorted for me now. I haven't had any e-mails today?

Their support was useless though. To waste some of their time (Lord knows they've wasted mine with this spam) I taken out half a dozen support tickets with them (just copying and pasting the same in each).

Most said "We're aware of this and are working hard to fix it" etc, but one came back and said:

'We understand you are getting billed for a subscription payment after cancelling it.

After reviewing your account, you haven't cancelled the subscription.

To cancel your subscription, please follow these steps:

1) etc etc'

Great to know they read all support tickets in depth..

Is anyone else having problems CANCELLING subscriptions?

As per my last post here we still have the same issues, some subscriptions just aren't billing and others we cannot cancel.

Support says the ones which are not billing are not active, but they are and the system says they are, we just cannot do anything with them.

Its almost like paypal has restored from a backup at some point over the last few days and a lot of data is now out of sync or something?

I know their site was 500 erroring for nearly 30 minutes back on the 18th so must be related? I Cannot find any news posts or similar anywhere to back any of this up?

Support just won't help and we have lots of overdue subscriptions to get sorted out. We just had someone pay twice and cannot even refund one of the payments.

Hello,

I'm not sure if its related or not, but the night it started happening was the night LINX were having huge issues. There was maybe 60gbits or so of a dip in the LINX traffic graphs.

Sunday the 18th was definately a bad day for UK internet - a lot of people around the whole country were unable to use popular websites such as facebook.com and my co-located machines.

Maybe if they had servers in London UK (which I imagine they will) this is what caused the seemingly out of sync data?

They must have a pretty bad setup if this is what caused it..

Sigh, 4 e-mails in the past 2 minutes

Ranked up 2000 of these e-mails now.

It's things like this that reaffirm my decision to cut down my acceptance of PayPal

Just had another reply to my email thanking me for using paypal and providing me instructions on how to use my account... they don't understand the site is throwing me an error page when I try and do anything

Okay, PayPal have just messed up even more.

As I said above, PayPal sent me 1,000+ e-mails for the same subscription payment. The money left my account once (but yet I got 1,000+ e-mails for it).

Today, I just logged in to PayPal (and had e-mails) to say that the same subscription payment has been sent out (out of the subscription cycle) because the other subscription payment didn't work. And to top it all off, I'm not having extra e-mails for this new subscription payment (up to 10 e-mails thus far, since 2 hours ago).

So now I've been billed twice, and been sent thousands of e-mails.

PayPal are awful.

Update

Just a quick update to those of you having to cope with PayPal's SPAM.

I have just got off the phone with a PayPal agent, and after about 10 minutes of going back and forth, he put me on hold to "go and check".

I was then told that they were recieving plenty of calls about this (even though it'd been the first time he'd heard of it) and it is currently top priority to get it fixed.

No idea what these monkeys are playing at. Seriously bad service.
