I've for too many problems with dreamhost and want to move away from it.
What I need is:
- SSH Shell Access
- PHP5, Mysql5
- 1GB disk space
- 20GB monthly transfer
- 5 domains
- 5 DBs
- Under 24 hours support
- US Based
- Access to logs files
- Cron jobs
- Budget $10/month.
Please let me know if there is some reliable Web hosters with the above requirements.
Thanks,
Anika

What are you going to host?
Do you really need SSH access? For what purposes?

Who cares? , he want SSH access, even if it's just to edit files with vim.
To the OP, do not fall tempted in those hosts offering 300 times what you need for $5, your requirements and budget are reasonable to find a good host. There are many in here, the trick is to found it .
Make a shortlist of hosts fitting your needs, and then start to research about them with http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php

Hi,
For your needs and $10/mo budget, I'd recommend just upping the budget a little bit more per month and get a reliable VPS where you have full access and customizing your php5/mysql5 to however you want it and any modules
Good luck on your search

Well, many hosts don't offer SSH, so it limits the "short list".

Anika,
You will find many who can deliver this for the budget you have quoted, only small issue might be the SSH access, while it certainly could make things easier for those who know how to use a CLI, for most users its not needed. As it is a security issue you might need to send some proof to the hosting company (in form of a identity card i.e.) for them to enable shell access.
Take a look in the offer section and you might just find the host for your needs.

I need to host one e-commcerce site and a few personal, on PHP5/Mysql5. I need ssh to modify some scripts on the fly, running cron jobs, looking at the access logs live, playing with Rewrite Rules, checking server loads, etc.
The ability to look at the access log live is important for me to do debugging, also there are many things that I can do from command line that are faster and more convenient than editing locally and upload the changes. Install some opensource software that I can compile on my own ...
I'm aware that many does not need shell access, until they the learn the hard stuff. But, once you have shell access, you don't want to go back.

An CLI die hard in such a case i understand why you need it anyways, as you run a e-commerce site you are probably also in need for SSL and thus your own IP ?

A lot more web hosts offer SSH than you may think.
Seems like a reasonable request and should have no problem finding a reliable provider. $10/month is a very good budget for your needs. Avoid companies offering ridiculous amounts of resources and you should be fine and there should be no need to get a VPS for having php5 and mysql5 as a requirement as most web hosting companies offer this now

Actually lots of people care. If its really needed for something important some hosts might make exception, but if they have no idea what ssh is going to be used for than forget any host even trying to make an exception.
So everything matters and there is someone out there who cares !!

Yes, I'm a CLI die hard a few sed/awk/perl lines can do wonderful things. I don't need SSL or my own IP for now. I used to have my own class C back in 92, when it was free to ask and free to have and lost it because I never use it.
I'm using Paypal for now, the sale volume doesn't justify a Merchant account. Also, I don't want to deal w/ the pesky PCI compliance, especially in a share environment where credit card data can be compromised.
I'll be looking in the offer forum. Requiring SSH does cut things down to a very short list. Please fell free to list the hosting companies that do offer ssh access.
Thanks again for the speedy answers,
-Anika

Yep those can come very handy anyways, not all hosts advertise SSH access you could also contact the sales departments and explain your needs if you need a broader group of hosts to choose from
Good luck with your choice.
