    Closing threads?

I came across http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...=694339&page=2 through my daily search for the companies I am involved in.

Is it a new policy to close a thread when discussion has "ended", per se?

I have no gripes about threads being closed in damage control situations or when flame wars break out etc. But it stifles the community atmosphere with strict thread closing like that?

I wouldn't say, when discussion has ended." More like, "when topic has been resolved."

The thread you reference was a member looking for opinions on choosing between different providers. When he chose one of those providers, it leaves nothing to discuss.

So, yeah. Resolved threads are often closed.

SWR, am I right in thinking theres an 'Un posted' time limit as well ?

ie, if nobody has posted for 100 days[or whatever] the thread is closed.

or did I dream that ?

You dreamt that, and frankly, if you're dreaming about WHT, you need to step away from the computer and take a little personal time off

It really comes down to what the whole point of the thread is. If its a discussion, chances are we will leave it open. However in this case the OP was looking for suggestions for himself. Although the OP said that he had found a host, I guarantee you that there would be people still posting suggestions.

Taking your advise, off to Pembury for a bit of motor racing, but only as a spectator, if I fall asleep, I can dream about winning Monaco !

You've probably come up against the "Old Thread Warning" bit.

If a thread is over 90 days old, the reader is reminded it is old and they have to tick a box if they want to reply.
