2x128mb or 1x256mb?

I build all of my web sites using the Drupal CMS. Therefore they are quite database heavy.

Would i be better of with 2 VPS with 128mb RAM each (frontend & database) or 1 VPS with 256mb RAM?

I would use one instance, as it will be more efficient without loading up the OS yet again. If you tune everything right you can get down to about 50-80MB of ram usage without any of the services running (ie just booted). Then tuning MySQL and the web service you can probably keep it under 110MB of ram usage overall. The OS will then use all that wonderful memory to cache files, programs, etc. Make sure to use drupal's cache (to reduce queries) and some form of php caching (XCache, eaccelerator, zen optimizer, etc).

You may or may not find this useful but this is my VPS, it runs DNS, Mail and a few busy websites.

well i will explain the reason behind this question.

i have found a good deal on a 128mb VPS. i think it will be enough, but as i expand it may not be. So i was thinking of then getting another and splitting database and front end. Rather than paying a lot lot more to upgrade to 256mb.
