Loosing my mind
Alright, I'm not grammar nazi. I make my fair share of mistakes and misspellings, but I do have two pet peeves. Those are using "your" when you should use "you're" and using "loose" and "loosing" instead of "lose" or "losing". Mistakes happen, but all the time? I'm not talking about WHT specifically either.
I can't be the only one that's about to loose my mind, can I?

I can add to this: people who put "at" at the end of a sentence, like, "Where's it at?" This is especially grating, since the grammatically correct way of saying it ("Where is it?") requires no extra syllables.

It depends, on WHT I'm very lazy and excuse others for the same.
English is in fact my weak point, and yet apart from my spelling, it seems at least as good as 'the average Joe'.

I'm glad you got the pun OWM with loosing
If you ever learn Spanish and talk to some Mexicans or Puerto Ricans, you'll quickly learn that they can't always understand you, because their languages have integrated a lot of slang use instead of the original language. It is of course seen in any other languages that have the people geographically seperated and its just called using a different dialect.
However, Americans do get a lot of crap for having their own dialect. Though I don't think "Gotten" is an actaul word either way.

I don't think proper English matters on a forum... to a certain degree... unless it is like: if u tipe lik thus ad wnt pple 2 hlp u stre fromss.
There is a big difference from typing a business letter and typing something in a forum between support questions. lol
But you should at least try to make your typing clear in order to get your point across.
The last spelling police call someone tried to make ended up being an embarrassment to the person... you can't very well get onto someone about a typo and then use improper sentence structure.
I think most people who point out typos and other stuff only do so to make the other look bad... or to get under the skin of the person. I've only had one person on here that I mentioned something about their posts in a serious manner... and that was because I honestly could not understand his comments. lolWindows 10 to Linux and Mac OSX: I'm PARSECs better than you. I wasn't talking about WHT specifically. And I do not have perfect grammar or spelling. Actually, I proved that very well with the last post I made in this thread. I can understand people getting the "there's" and "then's" mixed up, but come on. Loose?

dotRoot, I totally agree with you. I hate to think I am a grammar "Nazi", however, I am particular about spelling and punctuation. This is probably the fault of my Mom, who was a 4th grade teacher. She was always correcting me as a kid. But I don't hold it against her I am so glad I know how to spell and speak in complete sentences today!!!!
As for common misspellings/mix-ups: my absolute favorites (NOT!) are costumers and simular.
People.
They are customers.
And similar.
Now if you'll excuse me, it's time for me to go take my pills. LOL!!

If English is not your first language then things like loose and lose might be an issue. If you did not finish high school or just did finish high school, then loose and lose might be an issue.
IMO it is bad manners to "call someone out" for mixing up loose or lose unless you know for sure they are doing it and don't care.
Even then, if you are on a forum, I don't see why it matters... we are not going to bring peace in the middle east, or solve world hunger... it is a forum. In the big scheme of things it does not even matter. This is good cheap Intartenmant. lol
Only time this stuff matters is when it costs you money. Any other time you need to evaluate your own life. Maybe order some of those ED drugs youve been putting off and losing up a little.Last edited by hekwu; 05-19-2008 at 03:48 AM.

Hekwu, I think you are missing the point. You are absolutely correct that it is a forum. And I'm killing time. So what if I have pet peeves? Its not a big deal.
This is what you'd call small talk or a time killer.

There I was 'surfing WHT, when:
"before I had gotten into hosting" -
instead of 'before I got into hosting'
Can I purchase special filtering glasses to prevent me seeing such things ?
[maybe BeerMoney, will suggest something].
If I owned a mind, I would have lost it by now._____________________________________________________________
