Looking ! Help me find it for less than 50$ a month
Hello,
So after a not so happy start with VolumeDrive, I canceled and need a new hosting provider.
The server's pretty standard, with:
- Linux OS
- >= 2 Ghz
- >= 100 GB HDD
- >= 512 MB Ram
- >= 3TB / Unmetered @ 100 Mbit port speed
- Full root (dedicated)
- Allows torrents
The server must pull at LEAST 2 MBps from common sites like microsoft.com / apple.com.
Any suggestions on a provider? Let me know!!

You're correct, 3 TB is a lot.
2 TB is more reasonable.
And no, please don't be silly and mention slower generations of processor. 2 Ghz is the minimum.

Not happy with VolumeDrive, one can only assume due to the BurstNET issues... so logically instead of raising your price to find a higher quality provider, you're looking for another server in the $50 range and don't think the same crap is going to happen again?
Have you considered raising your budget or maybe even doubling it and save yourself a few headaches down the road?

Yeah I don't think you'll be able to find that. Your expectations are to high. If i'm thinking about it correctly 3TB would work out to be 10Mbps and you can't get that for 50 a month. just remember, you get what you pay for.

You know the old saying of people that "assume"...
I'm sure this has nothing to do with his request to "allows torrents"

BURST NET is not related to this thread, please discuss the topic elsewhere.
Regardless of the fact torrents were (at times) running to download Linux Distributions, that does not rectify (or make up) for the speed that was absolutely atrocious.
HTTP, FTP, were all slowed to most often 11-40 KBps.
Network jitter was horrible not even being able to conduct SSH sessions in real time, without significant keystroke delay.
Again, looking for a SUPERIOR host.Last edited by couchpotato; 05-17-2008 at 01:47 AM.

Should have stayed at VolumeDrive. Why didn't you just email Josh if you were having a problem.

I found one at $60 and I'm absolutely ecstatic about it!
The BEST customer support EVEN friendlier than josh (was at times).
Great Absolutely GREAT speeds and GOOD latency <35 ms to it and <80 ms to Google (from here).
The server gets a ping to Google of just 21 ms.
Cheap and FAST, got a great 3.1 Ghz P4 with 1 GB DDR and 160 GB SATA.
I'll be staying with them for a while it seems...
Very nice.Last edited by couchpotato; 05-19-2008 at 01:01 AM.
