    Greylisting

    Hi everyone,
Over the last week or two, I've started having problems with a site I'm hosting always having their e-mail bounce back as "greylisted." They do not spam (I can vouch for that) and as far as I can tell, we are not on any RBLs. If I understand right, only one e-mail should bounce with greylisting, but some domains have remained unroutable time after time. This did not happen at all until just recently, which makes me think we must have ended up on some list somewhere.

Any ideas what might be causing this? I'm starting to worry we won't be able to e-mail out to anybody soon, and I'm not sure why!

    My IP is 69.93.217.50.

    Thanks,
    Tim

    Tim,

Greylisting is only temp-rejection - when your smtp servers are set to behave correctly according to the respective RFCs I wonder whether your problem really is due to greylisting. What makes you think so? Do you have the exact error message/log entries?

According to http://www.dnsbl.info you are not on any blacklists...

    Cheers

Thanks -- the thing that got me started on looking into greylisting was that exim's log showed that the server was rejecting it due to greylisting. It seems like enough of these e-mails were rejected to cause exim to assume the host was dead. I cleared exim's retrydb which has helped for now, but I'm not sure if that is a permanent fix or not.

If you could paste a sample entry here what you saw in the exim logs, we could get more idea.

I thought I posted some samples back in May, but they must not have gone through. Here are some fresh ones. I am noticing more and more problems with exim failing, despite trying some recommendations on how to patch things up. Help -- I think my mail server is sinking!
