We have 10 ESX servers with a large SAN that we store the images on. We use Vmotion and HA for disaster recovery.

    Thanks for the reply.

Does anyone use it for anything other than disaster recovery?

What exactly are you looking to do with vmotion?

We use VMware's ESX for our highly-available hosting service. Distributed Resource Scheduling (DRS), Vmotion, and High-Availability (HA) are all enabled in our environment.

Is there anything specific you are looking for regarding ESX whether it be hardware, SAN, licensing, etc. requirements?

I was thinking one of the capabilties was that you could move vmm's from one server to another if the need arises. Like if the current server the VMM is on is overloaded it can be used to move to another server with less load.

So I am looking to see how others use the tool.

That's exactly what we use it for... either ESX automatically moves VMs around if DRS decides it is best based on CPU and Memory load (we use a relatively conservative setting so VMs don't move around "too" much since memory de-duplication per host will be affected if they move a lot), or if we need to perform maintenance on one of the hosts (BIOS upgrades, additional cards, memory, etc. being added).
