San Diego Colo recommendations?
I need a 1/4 cabinet, 5 Amps, and 1mbps bandwidth, but more would be nice. It also needs to be in San Diego. LA is too far, though Irvine might work (I'm in Oceanside). I've checked out AIS and they have a fantastic set-up, but realistically more than I need.
Any recommendations/experiences?
Thanks,
Jamie B

Are you working within a specific budget? Might help us narrow down the possibilities.

I'm interested in what others are paying / can offer, what they get, what they use it for, and how satisfied are they. How bandwidth is measured is important too.
For example:
"Hi, I pay approx $xxx for 1/4 rack, 6A, 5 Mbps at <mycolo>.com and I've got great uptime. Bandwidth is 95% percentile.",
or
"Hi, I pay $yyy for 10Mbps, and I use it for downloads mostly, but the lag/jitter is really bad so its no use for VoIP. Bandwidth is measured as average bandwidth.".
I'm particularly interested in bandwidth costs, but I need decent quality as I'll be running my own asterisk server and providing that service to some friends who are lawyers and need 24hour service. I've got mates/family in New York and London who I converse with regularly.
Thanks.
Jamie

The big carrier-nuetral facilities are AIS, ComplexDrive/Cari, and Castle. You could also colo direct with Level3, XO, AT&T ect. ComplexDrive is the only company I know of that does average bandwidth billing, but you will pay a premium per-Mbps for that type of burstability. Assume 95% billing for everyone else in SD as far as I've seen.

We utilize Complex Drive but roll our own BGP bandwidth mix with the carriers on-site.

ComplexDrive/Cari have a reputation for offering a cheap service in price and quality

Damien,
I agree their bandwidth quality isn't the best, and you've certainly made that clear in other threads =). They have made strides in improving it since you left them though.
I would like to re-clarify that we pull in our own bandwidth completely bypassing their network so it's not an issue AT ALL for our customers. Additionally, their colo staff is always there, available instantly by phone to walk out and do stuff at 2AM which is a huge plus for a company like ours.
I don't know if you have ever visited their datacenter floor, but it is not cheap or low quality by any means. It puts nearly all of the DC's to shame we visited or occupied in LAX.
