Hostgator is one of the most popular reseller hosting providers. If try search from http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php when you can find a lot of reviews.

Absolutely, they are an example of a very large provider that still manages to provide fairly personalized support, and I recommend them frequently.

I use hostgator. They get my vote but obviously as a customer I always feel they can improve. Like for instance they advertise in their website that they offer FREE Enom Domain Reseller account for new resellers but when I first tried to use the account for dn registration for my clients, I got a DN registration error that my enom account isn't a reseller.

Apart from that, I'm a happy customer and I supposed I'll use them for the foreseable future if status quo is maintained or improved.

    Fact:

Hostgator oversells heavily (as most reseller hosts do, except they do it more than most), and if you do actually try to use the space that you purchased from them, you will most likely be suspended for "excessive CPU and RAM usage".

Think I'm kidding? Too bad the owner of HG (Brent) even goes far enough to ADMIT this on his blog

    http://blog.hostgator.com/2007/10/06/selling-out/

Im still dumbfounded that he could make such a blog post and think its "OK"!

Dont get me wrong, HostGator has many happy customers, but they are notorious for playing the "Excessive Resource Usage" card to suspend any semi-popular domains.

I have used them about year ago - I was really happy until our website growth too much for shared hosting

They oversell on shared hosting servers - RESELLER servers is another thing. They do not allow overselling for resellers. All these years I have received PREMIUM service from a budget service provider.

The word "oversell" is a term that is overused. What is most important is the level of support and server uptime, and hostgator has good reputation in both of these areas.

They do not allow overselling for resellers.
That doesn't mean they're not overselling themselves, but the degree of overselling is definitely different from their shared hosting. When it comes to shared hosting they're in the budget hosting market, and huge, virtually unlimited allocations are the name of the game in that market area today.

Hostgator are great, I've used them once in the past.

Only problem is they don't have a UK base. So may be an issue if you have mainly UK based clients.

    Hostgator suspend sites without notice.
Which may or may not be a bad thing. It all depends on the specifics. If a site slows a whole server down, there can be no time for prior notifications. Action is needed, so that the other hundreds of users on the server are not affected.

Other situations may make early notifications more of a possibility though.

I've started my hosting company usign the Silver Reseller Package
    of HostGator.
Everything is perfect. No configuration problems. You are ready
to go and start hosting people.
They even give WHMautopilot or WHMCompleteSolution. You can have
    one or both of them.
Support is great and the have a 24/7 Online Chat System.
Only one negative point! The have really strict TOS but if you
want to be completely legal their TOS is the best.
If you want a reseller account that will always be online and
stable, then HostGator is the solution for you.
    Give it a try...

HostGator appears all good and okay to new customers, because you havent used up all their webspace and bandwidth offered yet. I usually do not support company that oversells and if I did not have my own webhosting company, I would definitely go for a a new company over a big company as their servers would be quite new and there are promotions etc.

Try emailing their support and ask them to migrate your 800GB current website. =)

I've had multiple accounts with HostGator and I loved the service they provided me. Sure, I experienced some issues, but most of them were self-caused. Overall, I'd recommend them. Brent is usually easy to get in touch with when you have issues, as well.

Ok, let me spill the beans here. Host gator is sorry. I used to work for them. Brent is only 24 and he doesn't care about his customers. His moto is 'all about the money'. This is sad due to the fact. I am a business professional myself. Host gator gets more sign ups per day, and loses about the same customers 'per day'. Due to mis- management and a unorganized company. They relocated from florida to texas. Because they ran out of employees. A 35% turnover rate. The company speaks for itself. You do the research find out for yourself.

Just because the first sentence is true, doesn't make the second equally valid.

They relocated from florida to texas. Because they ran out of employees.
Their servers were in Texas, so moving close was a smart thing to do, if for that reason alone. When you gorwo fast, you need employees fast. Trained individuals do not grow like mushrooms, nor are they very likely to relocate. So you may need to go where they are (open offices there etc).

His moto is 'all about the money'.
He's in business. It would surprise me if money didn't mean quite a bit.

I actually think Brent is doing a good job. I remember a while back he came on DP forums and solved issues personally.

Hostgator is the ONLY major big player host I have be 100% happy with (shared / reseller wise). Their support is fast, they have phone lines and good business ethics. They keep their customers happy, and even helped me while I was leaving them.

I would recommend them if they were not my competitors

I doubt UK market is something HG will be interested in, being a US company, their staff are US Citizens, its probably in HGs best interest to stay a US Company.
