Do I really need reselling?
I host several sites on ASO and have been pretty happy with their service and support, though lately have experienced some downtime.
I have several small sites (wordpress blogs), a light traffic phpBB forum, and 3 sites for musicians with galleries, email lists, and streaming music (all 3 are fairly light traffic).
I use reselling at ASO but since none of my clients use any of the backend, would I be better off with an account with multiple shared domains?
TIA,
Bob

That's entirely up to you.
It would be perfectly possible to host your sites under a shared account and have them added as addon domains.
However, you will miss some of the functionality and your different accounts will not have their own control panel.
If you intend to add more sites in the future, then I would be more eager to stay with a reseller account.

I'd stay on shared hosting unless you need more features or availability to system resources. You're probably not going to see the same kind of performance on a VPS, as you would on one of their shared systems, but if you continue to see problems, ask them to move you to one of their newer, less-full servers.

If the host was reliable enough, you could have one account. However, multiple accounts make it ironically easier to manage.

It's totally up to you. If you don't want everyone to have their own cPanel account then I would suggest you just go with a shared account. Most host's offer unlimited domains. But remember you get what you pay for.

One needs to think big, you already have the reseller package, why would you want to regress? You should instead be thinking about ways to make the reseller account profitable and from there move to a VPS or dedi...

I think you should just stick with your reseller account. Because it makes it easier to manage all of your websites at once.
If you don't mind a slightly harder management process than I think you can switch to a shared hosting package.

No.
I would get another reseller account with a different web host which has better uptime.

I have a small account with ASO and haven't been pleased with the difficulties I've had uploading files with FTP. Haven't checked the uptime.
I'd recommend you get a shared account with some host that uses H-Sphere instead of cPanel, since the former seems to be a better platform for multiple-domain accounts.

Yup. Reliability should be there, regardless of using shared or reseller hosting. If it's not, and the host does not address it, it's probably time to move.

I don't know what has drew you to this conclusion. If you find a remotely decent webhost that runs cPanel then you shouldn't incur any of the problems you have mentioned. This must be solely down to your hosting provider and their reliablity, thus, not cPanel actually giving you these issues.
Moreover, cPanel provides excellent support for multiple domain management, whether being hosted on a shared hosting account as an addon domain, or having a WHM account.

Another thing to look at is an hsphere host (steadfast is one that I know of), it's usually alot easier to use without having a reseller package, and each domain is stored in a seperate folder under your home directory vs all under the primary.

Thanks for all the replies. I will stay with my reseller account for the time being. As someone pointed out, better to think big and plan for the future.

cPanel still manages additional domains inside the home directory of the primary domain, right? To me, that isn't "excellent support for multiple domains."
