BurstNET XO Fiber
Ive just being doing some pings and tracerts on burst and it looks to me they have there new X0 fiber installed i still get around 20 hops and average 120ms ping any body found the new transit any quicker, im still deciding weather to go back to burst or not, the speeds are pretty much the same but it is too early to justify there stability
What do you think so far?

Unless you plan on running gameservers, I doubt ping will be important to you. Adding new connectivity does not mean it will improve a lot, as you are still going over the ocean to reach their servers and the distance is what increases the ping.

yes i understand that we were led to belive the new transit would be faster in some repects.
Im really wanting to find out how reliable it will be though, we had so many issues when they where on cognet it was unusable

I got 8-10ms faster. 190->180/182 average (sometimes 175).
Is now a peak hour in EUA/Europe? Because i'm getting this:
Code:tracert burst.net Rastreando a rota para burst.net [66.96.192.201] com no máximo 30 saltos: 1 5 ms 7 ms 6 ms 10.213.0.1 2 7 ms 7 ms 5 ms 200-246-46-130.vivax.com.br [200.246.46.130] 3 * * 10 ms Ge7-3-5-0-grtsaosi2.red.telefonica-wholesale.net.10.16.84.in-addr.arpa [84.16.10.145] 4 116 ms 118 ms 117 ms So5-2-0-0-grtmiabr4.red.telefonica-wholesale.net [213.140.36.65] 5 118 ms 119 ms 119 ms So6-0-0-0-grtmiana3.red.telefonica-wholesale.net [213.140.37.81] 6 145 ms 149 ms 148 ms So7-1-0-0-0-grtdaleq3.red.telefonica-wholesale.net [213.140.36.37] 7 * 150 ms 149 ms 64.215.195.73 8 220 ms 223 ms 211 ms hostnoc.demarc.gblx.net [64.214.106.38] 9 220 ms 222 ms 209 ms burst.net [66.96.192.201] Rastreamento concluído.

Fiber is not live yet...
You are seeing our XO Philadelphia connection currently (with updated routes for less hops, etc...).
The XO fiber/transit directly in Scranton is installed, and just awaiting BGP announcement of our IPs, before going live, which should happen any day now.

14 of those 20 hops are on your ISP's own network, burst can't do anything about that unless they peered directly with your isp. Also the ping seems about right for UK to US. 35ms of your ping start right at your isp (second hop). So subtract that from 120 you get 85ms, which is about right for UK <> US.
