Anybody had bad experiance with VT6 support?

Iv herd a few good things about VT6 on here so I thought id give them a try but so far I'm not very impressed! Their support takes days to respond and when they do eventually respond its not with any sort of meaningful answer half the time. I'm on their extreme account. Iv had better support from shared hosting costing less than half as much!

I have a couple of questions about how cpanel is meant to work. I have one main domain on my account and 4 add on domains added on with their own folders. Now are these add on domains supposed to be controlled by the main cpanel account page? because I was having trouble deleting files with the file manager. It was saying that I had deleted the files but when i accessed the account via ftp they were all still their and had not been deleted. And what was showing in ftp was what you could access with the web browser. I then discovered that I could log in to each sub domain in cpanel as if it was on it own separate account. So i have a completely different cpanal control page for each addon domain surly this cannot be correct? I was able to delete the files I was trying to delete by logging into that particular domain names own cpanal like so
    http://www.something.com:2082/frontend/x3/index.html

I can do this with each of my addon domains is this correct?

Also is their anyway to edit the php.ini file in cpanel? I simply need to make the session save path writable.

    Ticket ID?

The php.ini file is in /var/lib/php.ini and is uneditable by you.

Well can you please respond to my ticket and edit it for me. Its only a matter of uncommenting a line and making the session save writable! Would take all of five mins to do and its been 18 hours since I submitted the ticket! Ticket id TSU--960930. Last Update: 02 May 2008 03:58 PM.

Also what about my cpanel questions?

Been over 24 hours now and no response to the ticket. To be fair maybe they are having problems or being overwhelmed with tickets but 24 hours to do something as simple as making the session save path writable does seem ridiculous. Any opinions on this?

Im close to canceling now and maybe just go for an entry level VPS or something with another company.

Have you tried making your own temp directory for sessions?

Stick something like this in a .htaccess and it should do the trick..

    Code:
    php_value session.save_path = "/home/your_username/tmp"

I honestly don't know why you think that threatening to cancel or posting here will change anything beyond me wanting to help you a little less.

I've responded to your ticket. I'd like to remind WHT that this customer called me about his ticket where he was guided through the process.

To the customer: we don't offer ticket resolution or reply time guarantees. We respond to tickets based on their urgency. I challenge you to find another shared hosting firm in the UK who you call at any time and be put through to a Sr Sys Admin who will talk you through your issue.

I do know where you are coming from, they are sort of slow but as VT6 says, they don't promise to answer questions in a certain amount of time.

I think they are a small personalised company who are true to their word. Yes, they may be a bit slow but I like it when I know the owner is helping me through simple queries.

Ok maybe you dont offer ticket resolution or reply time guarantees but I still think over a day to get any sort of response is a bit excessive, is it any wander people get frustrated and start becoming dicks about it. Even a reply like: were a bit busy and may not get round to this for while would be better than nothing.

I called you about a the first ticket after waiting more day and no reply other than are u sure u emptied the trash can, when the file manager I was using never even had a trash can. I then figured out I was doing something wrong and logged into the correct control panel for the domain I was trying to edit. I then proceeded to try and install my site and got stuck at the very next hurdle because the session save path was unwritable. So I submitted another ticket about that and then had to wait more than another 24 hours until i got a reply after posting here.

So now you see why I became so annoyed about it.

The answer to my ticket was just to cut and pate what was written in the thread and it never worked anyway.

    php_value session.save_path = "/home/your_username/tmp"

    I tired php_value session.save_path = "/home/andrewmc/tmp" and php_value session.save_path = "/home/andrewmc/public_html/tmp"

ok Iv solved it. is should have been like this:

    php_value session.save_path /home/andrewmc/tmp

I apologize to VT6 for being dick about this. Ill get my site up and running and see how it goes. If it gets popular I can see me outgrowing this hosting plan fast anyway because my site is joomla based and has some hefty scripts running.

    will report back soon
