    Jabber anyone?

Who here is familiar with Jabber?

I'm looking into it at the moment because it sounds promising but I want to know if it is possible to have a JID: at my own domain. Because allot of people already have my email ([email protected]) so I would like to have my email as my Jabber address.

Is it possible for me to do this without running a Jabber server?
I could tell you a joke about UDP. But I'm not sure you would get it!

I believe you'd need jabber hosting of some sort. In theory it could be on a seperate machine as jabber is meant to have SRV records although I don't think all clients / servers support this

I've ran a Jabber server before, and it's dirt simple.
Just need a Jabber server in a machine http://www.jabber.org/servers

Than you use it like any other Jabber ID.

You would need to run a jabber server. One way to sidestep that though is to look into using Google Chat's servers via Google Apps for your domain.

Im looking into google apps now but I don't want to move my dns to them.

I assume there is a way to redirect jabber to the Google server in the dns records.
