    They just pick up the handset and it automatically connects to a local switchboard where you tell the operator where to connect to and the operator manually connects the call to the desired person/number.

    Me too! Seriously, I've been looking on eBay for real (not replicas) antique phone (30s-40s) for my new massive wooden desk. No luck yet.

    I also like them telephones where you held the ear piece and talked through the tall thing... if any of you have watched the Andy Griffith Show, you know what I'm talking about.

    Thanks goodness I do NOT live in those olden days... so primitive everything was!

    Oh well, we are still VERY primitive... wish I had been born 500 or 1,000+ years from now. Sigh

    I'd be pulling into my driveway with my flying car. Well actually... my car practically already flies the way I drive

    So not good example.
