About site5.com (positive or negative)

Hi,

I did a search on this site, and read a lot of negative things about site5.com

Is it still a 'bad'company or has their service changed?

Is it better to take a hosting with hostgator.com

Because aren't they overselling their packages: 1500 gb (storage) and 15.000 gb (bandwithe)

Thanks

The problem here is they oversells too massively.
Do you need such large space and bandwidth?
What is your budget like?

Well, it's not that i need it. But for only 7 $ it's really cheap.

With 5 gb space and 50 gb bandwith, i'am happy.

I have read once, i forgot the source, that site5 only allows 30.000 files, even if it just was 1 gb totally.

Then what you need for that amount of space and bandwidth are hosts like www.medialayer.net www.rochen.com www.elitehosts.com or www.precisioneffect.com

NOT SITE5.COM!!!!!

If you don't need so much space and bandwidth, it is just numbers to you.
Do you prefer quality or quantity?

I would suggest you http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/ or http://www.downtownhost.com/.
Both are cheap, run powerful server, do not oversell and load is most time between 1.00-3.00

I was with Site5 for a couple of years. They started off great. Then as time went on the support response time plummeted. Then when I got 6000 visitors in one day they just turned my site off without even notifying me. It was the middle of the night my time so my site was down for 6 hours without my knowledge. Then they "explained" it had been turned off according to some metric that wasn't even in their service agreement. I moved that site elsewhere pronto.

I wouldn't recommend them.

It is so sad that so many people look at hosting this way. I'm not blaming you spel, this is the trend in hosting nowadays. Even if they only need 100 mb of space and less than a gb of monthly bandwidth, they want 9000000000000 gb storage and 100 tb bandwidth for 5 to 7 per month.

I look at it as a no hard limits safety net that keeps me from having to worry about waking up one morning with a high data transfer bill, rather than the advertised limits being some sort of goal to achieve. I can pay my little bit to 1&1, never worry about it, and STILL legitly be able to use MORE than many of the "non-oversellers" plans would provide, and generally for less money.

The support with site5 is terrible. I remember waiting 2-3 sometimes 4 days to answer tickets.

It's normal for you to want more.
However, what's the use if you can only look at it and not use it? (as they will limit you through cpu and ram usage)

You have to sacrifice your 'wants more and moreee' thinking in order to get quality.

Just my 0.02.

I am being with site5 for 2 years, the server performace recently wasn't as good as a year ago (overselling?). A credit card I used to purchase the hosting plan was stolen and when they couldn't charge the old credit card, they shutdown my hosting plan without notice, not even a single email to let me know. I did not know anything until one of my friend's call me and ask me why their email couldn't work (I hosted the site for them) I emailed and asked site5 if I could go to the "backstage" and update the cc info but they said they have to manually do it, at first they ask for the PHOTO of the front and back of my new CC, I sent them that and they emailed and asked to send my ID photo since the CC's #s did not match with the current one?

It's been 3 days already after all this emails back & forth due to their "business hours" working and each email took half an hour to 4 hrs each, I was so fustrated and try to call the sale department, they told me over the phone that my ticket was handle by the billing department and they don't deal with those issue. The sales can offer support over the phone but NOT the billing department EVEN during business hours.

It seemed like they just try to support 'potential' customers, once you already be their customers, it's a different story. The site's downtime for 3 days means nothing to them, the support ticket used to have a emergency, high, normal piority, now everything is the same to them, I don't even see its categories there or in the email they've been replied to me.

Best luck to those who are currently their customers. Hope you find their service more "reliable" when you run into problems.

I have heard both sides for this website, For what they offer they cannot offer it to you or no one else that holds a service with them. It really looks like a lot but who really is going too use that much honestly?

I don't even use 20GB in a month and I run a hosting service.
I find the more the Space and Bandwidth a Host has the more people they may attract but the slower the server will be.

There are now heaps of hosting services out their one individually to suit our needs. Just search the web or search the Advertised section for a suitable host.

Cheers
