    Servage.net!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    hello!

I am a servage custumer since 2006, today when I check my website I have this message :

    Not Found

The requested URL was not found on this server.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Servage.net Clustered Webhosting running enhanced Apache Webserver

immediately I go to control panel to open a support ticket, finaly I have the response from servage team that tell me :

"Unfortunately we do not know, how your contents are deleted. Neither there is any server issue also. So, please check once again at your end."

So if you are with servage, backup you website and move it to another company.

screenshots of ticket are in attachements.

very sorry for my bad english.

raramomo, let me initally say that I am sorry for your loss.

Although this is clearly an issue on Servage.net's side, I think you should use this as a learning experience for the future. Always backup your data... even if your host takes them for you.

Servage doesn't handle backups, which is stated in their TOS. ALWAYS create your own backups. It's not very smart to have two years of work not backed up somewhere!!!
    hi there!

    hello!

I don't beleive that my folders are deleted accidentaly, a few days ago I receive this mail from servage :

    Dear *******,

We have noticed that your account is using many server resources at the moment. The last hours your account has had 321632 requests for your site which is quite allot. We will have to ask you take measures to lower the load or we may be forced to temporarily suspend your website.

We hope that we do not need to take such drastic measures but it may be necessary to ensure good performance for other customers on the cluster. I'm sure that you understand our commitment to provide the best possible service to all customers.

If you have any questions please submit a support ticket via the control panel and our support staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Did they delete your files permanently or only hide/move them away for you (and your site's visitors) to access them?

    Your Servage Team,

So, when this was sent out..all you say is a few days ago - YOU did not contact them right away about the problem? If not, then WHY not? It looks from everything you've posted here that they purged your account after sending this email but now they dont seem to be mentioning but you don't either.
What type account was this? Shared/VPS/??

That is horrible, but at the very least they should have suspended your account instead of deleting your files, unless their were forced by some DMCA type act, etc..

If you search this forum, you will find similar threads about servage deleting customer's files. I hope you have backup so you can move to another webhost that treats you better.

2 years worth of work and you never backed up any of it?

Clearly, it couldn't have been important.

Servage do delete files when you are using to much resources. But they never tell anybody that they delete files.

I used them to store backup files, and several times most of my files under some directories was deleted.

They told me that somebody had my password and deleted the files, but each time I changed my password (FTP login, main password etc) and still the same files was deleted 3 times, before I moved away from servage.net ( I used over 100 GB of diskspace)

So I think they are using the "missing files" trick when somebody are using to much resources and then they blame the customer.

My advice: Stay away from them at all cost.

I think a backup server costs like $10-20 a month for 10GB+. I don't understand why people don't use these services, especially if they have a control panel like cpanel that can do the backup -> FTP transfer for you daily, weekly, and monthly.

BQBackup has 100GB of storage for $20USD. BQBackup has a tried and true method of backups and has proven reliable service.

    Just use it!

Surely, a local backup should be kept (etc etc), but to ask a costumer of a shared hosting provider, that also claims that they are keeping backups to get themselves a separate backup solution is clearly missing the target.

Already using Servage for more than one year. I will make a backup right now because I also get this message from them.

This is a host that seems to be going downhill fast. We used to rate them quite highly.

Apart from stories like this, our own experience with them has deteriorated. Weekends particularly: outage of many hours... no reply or response to tickets. We are winding down our presense with them.

The risk of hosting providers that offers TB of storage and traffic is that they attract users who wants to use their allocated quotas, users that might not be that experienced and uses badly coded scripts and/or dynamically loaded pages that, combined with high traffic usage, will make the server they are on to spiral down a black hole.

Sure, these users do get suspended but the momentary collateral damage they inflict is still experienced by the rest of the users on the same server.

Sorry to hear your loss but most likely whatever you have in there is lost forever.

My and my friends used to have 4 websites with servage running for more than 6 months. One bright sunny day they all disappeared and servage said they do not know where it went or how it got deleted All 4 of them.

I'm sorry to hear about the issue. Could you please let me know your domain name? Then I will check up on it for you.

I have no doubt that it is a issue that can be solved.

How much disk space / data transfer do you need? Also tell us your budget.

  25. #25
Look, im running a complete multimedia site.

    So i would need :
Web Space : 200 GB (better if its flexible, may require to increase it)
Bandwidth / Data Transfer : At the moment, the site is just new born however in the near future it will grow exponentially (very quickly). So the number of files to be available for people to download will increase a lot, leading to the risk of bandwidth shortages.... At the moment i need atleast 150 GB/day (to be on the safe side). You guys can advice yourselves too.

Let me know the options. The budget is flexible. I think i will decide after having clear view of the options.

Did you get these stats from servage? If the answer is yes then maybe you are doing less than 150GB/day as many people report false servage stats.

For 200GB disk space you need a dedicated server. No shared hosting provider will allow you to use more than 200GB for the long run.

  27. #27
No, i did not get these stats from Servage. I have calculated them myself. The thing is that actually you are right, i dont need that much of bandwidth as well as space right now. . .

Ok, ill make it a bit more clearer. My webspace used increases at the rate of roughly 250MB/week (or less). And according to that my bandwidth needs would increase very very much when my site gets popular, which it will very soon.

I had quoted those previous values of disc space and bandwidth because i want that the host should be flexible and not like i dont get my webspace or bandwidth if i may require it in the near future.

If servage contacted you a few days before about a sudden increase in activity/resources for your website, it is quite possible that you had an outdated php/perl script that was exploited... first they stole some server resources (redirect to porn sites, rouge seo etc) and then someone just deleted the account....
