You would need to research each business before you cold call on them. Check your Yellow Pages as most would have their website listed there, if they have one. Remember, the objective of your cold call is not to make a sale, but to get an appointment.

If you are planning to ask a sales man to do door-to-door sales, you can forget about it. It's not worth the time and effort. At most one day you run 100 locations and could still end up selling no hosting plan.

The recommend doing mail drop. Drop some kind of flyers into the mailbox of certain office locations. I know here in Singapore there are companies that specialised in this kind of service. They could help you drop 10,000 to 50,000 flyers per day. If your pricing and sales is good, you should be able to close 50 - 100 customers.

Door to Door is good if targeting businesses, get a folder, bring plans, promo stuff and if you offer web design bring samples & prices!

I have done this before here in Ireland and have got at least 100 new accounts, most businesses appreciate that you came to visit them in person rather than send an email or flyer.

Nothing wrong in the approach, but its a sort of difficult one to knock each and every ones door for business.

Some of them may be rude enough!

Biju, what you said happens in India. You should be ready for such assaults. It depends on your ego as well.

I tried it in the past and didnt get much out of it so I tried a different thing.

We have 4-5 ISPs and tons of peripheral cmpanies in every good city. So I selected some of the sales guys of those firms [ Off record ] and asked whether they were interested in earning some more by spending 10 more minutes with each client they visit.

Now we get 10-12 new website [ small ones ] + web hosting orders every month and we are happy with it.

    Very true.

I hate doorstep selling, I find it to be very awkward when I turn the seller down.

I agree with that. And I'm afraid there won't be many people you visit being interested in your webhosting.
