    Laptop crashes when over heated

    Hey.
    I need an opinion here.
I just purchased Warcraft III and installed it on my 2ghz, 768ram and 64mb video card laptop which is way over the recommendation and after like two hours of playing, it suddenly got stuck and turned off. When I felt it, it was extremely hot and it wouldn't turn on for a couple of minutes.
Then I tried again, and again after like an hour of playing it crashed exactly in the same manner.

Does anybody know why? I ran games that are way "heavier" than that and it never happened before?
Also, could it potentially damage my laptop?

    Thanks in advance.

Are all the fans are clean and functioning, and isn't being blocked by anything? (example - setting the laptop down on a surface that cuts off air flow)

If the laptop is overheating, then yes, it can damage it.

Is it happening when playing anything else??

Is your laptop placed on soft surface, eg bed?
How is the ventilation of the area and the temperature?

My laptop does that if I forget to turn my fan on. But it usually depends on what surface the laptop is sitting on. The more insulated a surface is, the hotter it will get.

Heh, my laptop spends half of it's time on my lap and on my bed, and it's a Pentium 4 3.2Ghz (not a mobile one, can you get much hotter lol) so it isnt normal for laptops to actually overheat and crash as a result of it because mine hasnt crashed for nigh on 2 years.

My laptop is on my table, so no the surface isn't soft and nothing blocks the fans!!
It *only* happen when I play WC3 and never happens when I run games that are much more heavy

I don't have that problem with mine when I play games on it however we have a "desk type or something to hold the notebook" but it has a USB cord and a fan so basically you put this "desk" on the bottom and connect the USB to the notebook so it gives air from the bottom its really silent and I would think it helps. Sorry I don't have a link but its a suggestion you might want to look for.

Go get yourself a laptop cooling pad, they work fine.

However most laptops are not made for games. Dispite the fact you can play games on them, unless you buy a specific gaming laptop, i wouldnt expect the best results. You may have slow frame rates or issues getting new games running, or as your seeing an overheating problem.

Basically id say the things not designed to run that hot for extended periods.

You could try this - get some freezer packs, freeze them, wrap a towel around them in case moisture beads on them, and then sit the laptop on top. If it still crashes, and that is absorbing the heat, then you know it's something else.

Does it get that hot with the other games?
