Doesn't affect me at all. Its just something in the top right. I don't see the big deal.

That how it starts, now its just the top right, slowly it will creep to top left, bottom right and left, and eventually we will be seeing text ads below each and every one of our posts and PMs.

You do notice that you have to initiate it, don't you? It doesn't expand all by itself.

Actually I don't see the problem with them...just don't peel them.

I bet it would be different if there was a $1000 prize on offer to the lucky person who successfully peeled back that special prize winning ad and revealed the golden ticket.

I think the ads make wht more colourful to be honest and eye appealing.

What do you mean by "Such ads". I don't see any problem. Just a flash ad like others.
This one will peel off if you mouseover it, others will go to advertiser's website if you click it.

I would use the phrase "such ads" if I see one of those flashy "You are the 5,000,000,000 visitor click here to claim your prize", the infamous free talking smileys or the Japanese one invites me to USA and guarantees a green card

I have no issue with them. Its nicely in the corner and out the way and only appears a few times.

I personally think it turned out very well. Perhaps they should move the search button over a little bit, if possible. Its not really in the way though, and it does add some nice color.

My opinion may be biased, but I see these ads in various places, and the only time it bugs me is when they forcibly pop up when you mouseover, on this one you have to click it.

I am assuming some sort of blaancing act between flash and javascript.

There was this one guy in the design forum who was advertising he/she could design such banner.

It's clearly borrowed code, I see the exact same peel down on many other sites. I'm just trying to find out where to borrow it from myself

    FYI

The new 'peel' banner breaks the upper "Search Forums" textbox on OSX with FireFox. You can not select the text box or enter text in there to search and must refresh until it either goes away or use the advanced search.

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

One also cannot click on the PM box link. The flash covers that too.

I kinda see the peel ads as being pretty funky. Gives the site a real "page" kind of feel, with the page peeling back. They're not intrusive and only peel when you want them to peel. They don't appear in FF with adblock though.

I believe it is because as it appears randomly, it is hardly noticeable.

But, are you talking about before the ad is expanded, or after?

EXACTLY!!! what I had in mind. And at this rate, we are not far from seeing WHT page like the mock up screen shot. I'll probably reopen this thread when WHT's page becomes that way.

So those who are complaining about the peel down ads, are you going to sit there several hours a day looking at the top of the forum? I certainly don't, by the time you've scrolled down you'll no longer see the ads.
