Ive heard good things about them and I talk to the owner every once in awhile via IM. He seems nice, I haven't heard any bad replies from them yet. He houses the servers in BlueSquare.

    Kevin,

What type of provider are you looking for? There are quite a few of us in the UK so it might help narrow down the choices if you can be a little more specific.

If all you're after is a cheap server with masses of bandwidth then UK2, Rapidswitch and Poundhost are the budget brands. If you're after more personal service, or managed options, Gyron, TDMWeb, Secura etc may be more up your street.

What sort of spec, bandwidth etc do you need?

    Kind regards,
    Kris

This is a for a client who is doing XML inbound/outbound so quality bandwidth is really important. An unmanaged solution something like theplanet would be perfect.

I've got a couple of Dell servers at Poundhost for web hosting and another box at a2b2.com, I can't really fault either provider.

As a personal choice I would stick to the Dell offerings if going with Poundhost.

I remember reading somewhere.. If you host in US, you can save money and there's hardly any difference in connectivity.. (I think so).. may be others can clarify...

I have servers in both the US and UK to cater for the requirements of my clients. I'm in the UK and the UK servers are slightly quicker for me simply because they are closer.

For general web sites the speed difference isn't really that noticeable. However for a site or application performing lots of little requests the difference can be noticeable.

I'd also take a look in the offers forum - especially at those recommended by others.

    I'd recommend a2b2 without hesitation.

however i think 150ms lag isnt a lot, and you can get some decent hardware at theplanet or softlayer.

maybe something on the east coast might be better etc

I believe UK2 has quite a nice reputation here
