Can a 1&1 website be transferred to Cpanel?
Hi Everyone,
I want to transfer a website from 1&1’s control panel to a cpanel host. Can this be done in a “Backup and Restore” Kind of format?
The Website has a significant amount of email accounts and messages and I would not want them to get lost in transit.
Thanks for your anticipated help.

You may have to do this by hand I'm afraid, as 1&1 has their own custom control panel as far as I know.

What sort of site? Static HTML or database backed?

Bibleman,
You'll have to do it manually -- but your new provider should be able to quickly sync. the data via ftp or another method. The databases themselves (if any) would be a quick sync. as well.
It shouldn't take any more than a half hour even if entirely done by hand.

I would suggest you to ask your new provider about this. They may help you to migrate the files and databases, but you will probably need to compromise on email accounts.
I believe that you will have to recreate them in the new server.

I share IhubNet opinion, you can transfer all, but you will need to do some recreations, emails, databases, forwarders, subdomains... and some configurations may have to be changed to scripts in case you use databases.

As already mentioned, it will need to be done manually as they have their own custom control panel. However, most hosts offer some sort of free transfer service and should not have a problem assisting you with the migration.

Your emails should also be contained someplace in your account for easy download. However, you could try asking 1and1 to ZIP up your Website files, database files, log files, and email files (basically, all the files in your account) for you to download and re-upload to the new host. This would make your job much easier.

It's going to have to be manual, but it might be worth asking your new host whether they can help with the migration.
