    Google Maps - Street View

    http://maps.google.com/help/maps/streetview/index_.html

Discuss. Is this against people's privacy? I don't see a problem with public roads and such but what about when it views onto your home? It still is on public roads right? Discuss.

most of these to my knowledge are puplic cameras here in atlanta you can look at some interstate roads and some highways online and look for traffic problems.
i think its wrong we in our gut know its wrong
private companys shouldnt be allowed to conduct such operations unless its on or from there own property.
mayb there tapping in to these public feeds one can only wonder and hope that theirs not public feeds on every roadway in america.

They drive around on public streets with a camera snapping away. Nothing illegal about that, unless they enter private property.

What I really want to know is why the google car keeps getting passed, they drive too slow!

It is taken by cameras mounted on cars driving through the streets. Satellites wont be able to get that level of viewing.

I think there are cameras on all four sides and the shots are merged using some software to give the 360 viewing.

You cannot expect to have any privacy at all nowadays when outside of your house. Public areas such as the ones photographed by google are not violating privacy since they are in public.

If movie stars cant do anything about pics being taken everywhere they go, you arent going to be able to do anything about Google taking one-time snapshots of you if you happen to be there at the moment. Although... someone could probably get their 15 minutes of fame by shooting out the camera as they drive by...lol

It depends on where you are and what you use the pictures for really... I'd say for a free service such as Google is offering you'd really have no legal recourse.

All in all I think it's pretty neat... Marry it to Mobile Google Maps (not checked to see if it is already) and you've got yourself one heck of a nice GPS application.

"Google Street View includes a function that allows homeowners to have their pictures removed."

Really? Where? Just curious of there really is a "house removal form" If it is not automatic that will take "forever" to process

My actual street isn't on there, but the main road just outside my apartment complex is. They have most of my immediate area down pretty well though, I checked several addresses and they were all fairly accurate.

Whether it is a picture or a film recorded by the security cameras in certain public areas, you have no privacy. If you were in your own house and someone took a picture of yourself from the window, then it would be invading your privacy. I don't see how you can view this as a privacy violation when a public area does not provide any privacy. Everyone can see you, and you can see and hear everyone else.

If someone is talking on the phone next to you about his/her personal life in public. You would overhear the conversation. Does that mean you are violating that person's privacy and said person can sue you? No.

I think it's Against people's privacy. Because a friend of mine found a view where you see a Drugsdealer Dealing drugs.
And offcourse when you just "drive" arround. you can view the license plates from the cars.

They should've invested into RC helicoptor. A $3000 - $5000 would best suit there needs.

Modify it a bit to cover long range broadcast. and instead of driving around, send a helicoptor wwhizzing over people's heads snapping pictures.

They removed several of the pictures, but if you go far enough and turn back around you can still see it, I took a screenshot so you guys can see it, in case they remove that particular image as well.
