How fast is your home connection?

Yeah this isn't the best representation, but none the less comcast has a pretty good network where I am.

Dont like speed tests... prefer to test via FTP...

I am getting around 12Mbps downstream and 1.2Mbps upstream, on o2 Broadband, paying £7.50 per month.

NTL Telewest are now known as Virgin Media... they license the Virgin brand from Branson thanks to him having 5% shares in the company as a result of the sale of Virgin Mobile to NTL a few years back.

They do have extreme throttling at peak times (90% of you're speed can be cut) and are launching an advertising service on all their user's PC's as part of their service, as well as recently announced ISP content control so it's not all rosie, not to mention the fact they struggle to provide all customers bandwidth at peak times.

And the crap customer services doesnt help lol.

LinuxGod, are you on the FTTH or a 100Mbps trial? You don't live near Dolphin Square do you, very nice speeds

NTL have been trialling 100Mbps FTTH on and off for almost a decade now.

Virgin are now trialling it for the simple reason the broadband market is currently in a numbers race and they think it's good to be seen offering stupid, unrealistic speeds for next to nothing, all they do is keep upgrading speeds and never actually upgrading the infastructure and letting their others services decline...

They are still on DOCSIS 1.1 ffs lol! There are provides in the US already rolling out DOCSIS 3.0 iirc??

It may not seem awful, but the packet loss and latency is terrible so you can't do anything fun (games, streaming video/audio, etc). My only other option is slow DSL. I don't know what to do.

Mine is roughly half of yours. Rogers' Express service. Ping is a lil high but everything works well.
