Remote SQL Server


Hey,

I am makeing someone a catalog and I need to connect it to my SQL server, I have cpanel but the server with the website on has not, so on my server i made the database and user and put that into a config file and where I would put localhost i put my servers IP but it says error connecting help plz

Well, would be helpful to see the exact error you are getting.

Several tips.

If possible, use name and not ip, for example mysql.yourhost.com instead of 123.456.789.111

Make sure you have set the following:

connect_type - usually tcp
auth_type - for example cookies
port - usually 3306

make sure you use usename and password

The user should be able to login from the ip and not only localhost.So at your mysql.users you should have something like username@remoteip or username@% and not username@localhost.
Also if there are any firewalls they should have port 3306 open and not blocked.

mysql by default should only allow localhost to connect [if set up correctly]. you have to specifically allow the IP you're connecting FROM to have access to the server.

It sounds like you are putting the IP of the server that is housing the database, not that of the server that is connecting to the database. That could be your problem. Also, if you know the hostname that goes with the IP, I'd list that too.
