multi-languaje and SEO

Hello

We have a multilanguaje site, and as we are doing our new "SEOized" site, i need some clarify about how to manage this part

We could use
http://futurahost.com/en/
http://futurahost.com/es/
http://futurahost.com/it/

Or
http://futurahost.it/
http://futurahost.es/
http://futurahost.com/

How will search engines see each of those examples?
In the first case i can keep our actual link popularity and PR, but maybe the sub-folders will penalize it a little bit

In the second case i believe it will benefit of some SEO techniques, but PR and link popularity will be split between sites.

Please some SEO guru give me some light?

Thanks

Keep it all on one domain, and spell out the language

hosting company.com/english_language/
hostingcomapny.com/italian_language/

etc...

rather than multiple domains? too much to manage.

If you have a 100 page site, would u get a higher ranking if that site were split over 10 domains rather than have it on one site?

I think that this way would be more profitable for you, because in case with different language you develop ONE domain name.

Yes This is a better option. Also all your site will be in single roof. Easy to manage and will give you boost to your Internal site linking.

It depends of your business concept. If any of the websites presents different business entity which operates on different markets, you'd better create different websites.

If you just need to have a few language versions of the same website, then use one domain name and subdomains.

From what I can tell most companies will elect to use different language TLD domains. One reason for this would be if you have slightly different content per domain, you could theoritically have different indexed listings. In this as long as your not completely duplicating your content, you could therefore have another ranked page in the engines.

There is a reason why a company like 1and1 would have 1and1.com and 1and1.co.uk (and several other TLDs). They are both slightly different, and will get indexed slightly different.

Not to mention that as seperate sites, the links are a bit more agressive at pushing juice than if they were internals.

You cannot say to Google, "Hey this site is Spanish", Spelling it would never help.

Trying different TLDs is a good way. Try internal linking if you don't prefer to register multiple domains.
