mailnull


I have often seen the entry mailnull in the mail logs of exim.
I don't understand it. What is meant by mailnull ? where can i get information about it ?

mailnull is the exim user

[root@server ~]# exim -bP exim_user
exim_user = mailnull
[root@server ~]

It is set as mailnull as it is a non-privileged user, ie it does not have root privileges. Its done as a security measure. If you see a lot of processes with user mailnull, change the catchall account of accounts to :fail:
