400 gb per month bandwidth. Need linux host.

Could someone recommend a reliable host that can offer 400gb bandwidth per month without belching and moaning.
I have tried the following hosts and they are chicken for the above bandwidth with their shared hosting.

    hostdime
    hostgator
    liquidweb

I will open a seperate thread with my experience with these guys but right now I need a reliable host and I do not want to go with a vps.
i guess i am looking for something in between shared and a vps cost-wise.
I need it to be managed as I am not qualified to deal with the issues of it.

I doubt you need that much traffic, do you have a current site that consumes close that amount?

400GB is no problem, IF you would only go for a platform a site like that belongs on, in other words, go find yourself a dedicated server.

However i would wonder more about your traffic pattern as you say you loose traffic is this because your site is suspended or that your traffic at certain moments is so high that the server can not provide the service anymore?

Again, this type of sites do not belong on a shared-hosting account. Grab a bit of more money and get yourself a dedicated and you don't have anyone moaning anymore that you use a shared-host account for a site which belongs on a dedicated in the first place.

^ Or you can do that. I believe that you should move to dedicated as well.

no the bandwidth usage is pretty consistent. 400gb a month may be vps traffic but could you open up the above hosting sites and see how much bandwidth their basic shared hosting "offers". it is a scam and they wont let u go anywhere near the bandwidth.
ya i am learning it the hard way but it aint no reason to get worked up. if u got a host in mind, throw the name, or else let others speak who can actually help

    Manila,

Yep you learn the hard way that there are many hosts which oversell their services. You don't have to take my word for it, please don't, but i am quite sure you will not find any shared-host which let you use 400GB.

Wish you all the best in your quest of gaining 400GB on a penny account.

Try looking for some semi-dedicated hosting that doesn't oversell; It will still be expensive though, and close to, if not the same as a VPS price.

Maybe i may suggest to look for a semi-dedicated server in that case? But i am afraid the prices with the amount of bandwidth you will use can be quite expensive.

Again i wish you all the best in finding this host.

If you're pushing 400GB by distributing static, relatively big files (images, mp3s etc) you can find shared hosting that allows such usage. If you're pushing 400GB via script generated pages, you need a dedicated solution. Shared hosting is no longer an option.

It all boils down to the amount of CPU and memory usage.

If your traffic is "static", try out Dreamhost

have you heard about dreamhost? I know a bunch of people using 600GB of bandwidth there. But be wary, any host, including dreamhost, will most likely, at some point, suspend you for that bandwidth usage. Look for a VPS or dedicated server. You'll be much less likely to be suspended on a VPS than on a dedicated. Just remember, you're sharing with other people on a shared or VPS server.
    I'm currently hosting with: hostgator

If you are using that amount of bandwidth I think good decision would be to for a dedicated server.

As long as that traffic isn't being pushed by dynamic scripts, many of the reputable oversellers such as Site5 and Dreamhost should be able to accommodate you. I've pushed 5TB (yes, 5 terabytes) of bandwidth at Site5 before in one month without any complaints.

    check bluehost or dreamhost

If you are pushing 400GB, I wonder how resource intensive your sites are. Many shared hosts are going to boot you if your use too much CPU or RAM resources. It really looks as if you have out grown a shared hosting account.

Go for a VPS or dedi. Experience needed though so probably go for a managed vps.
VPS recommendation: knownhost. Though as can be expected I haven't tried many web hosts in a while.

shared might not be a good option for you with 400 GB bandwith especially if you start consuming huge resources on the server and you get removed by admins for abuse. So I would also recommend a dedicated server or a VPS.

    I'd have to second dreamhost.
    They'll easily suffice

They also have coupon codes floating around that you can use to sign-up for an account -- for an entire year -- for $10

    GK,

I can't seem to find one at the moment, I know my own account was $10 for the entire year -- it was some sort of special (their 10 year special) combined with another code.

I'll dig around and see if I can find it.

VPS usually very limited, you can find shared dedicated server, 10-40mbits with 1500 gb bandwidth. It's rare but it's out there.

I also think that you should move to dedicated as well!
