Softlayer 1 day review

Keep distance of this company. I ordered a server Yesterday. My friend order the same server. My friend have 4 CPUs. I have only 2 CPUS. As Softlayer lost me 2 CPU I contact with them to cancel and to have my money back, and I receive the following reply:

===
Formas: Hello Michelle
Michelle: Hi there, how can I help you today?
Formas: Yestarday i order a dedicated server. My account ID is SLXXXX. OK?
Formas: My friend order the same server. My friend account ID is SLXXXX. OK?
Formas: The problem is that my server was configured with only 2 CPUS. My friend, that order the same server and payed the same value (189$) was configured with 4 CPUS.
Formas: If My server have not 4 CPU, I want cancel and I want my money back
Formas: Could you tell me in details how I must proceed to cancel this dedicated and have my money back??
Michelle: If you wish to cancel your server, you can open an Official Cancellation Ticket, through the customer portal. Go to: Sales ----> Cancel Server
Formas: And about money back?
Michelle: We do not offer refunds
===

So guys, I only can recommend: Keep distance of this company. This comapny is very disorganized and make differents configuration for the same order. This is not acceptable. And The first impression is that this is not serious company.

Can you send us a link to the server you purchased so we may check it out ourselves? What is 4 cpus or 4 cores?

What server did you order? If it was a 2CPU server, then they're not obligated to upgrade you. Perhaps it was a random occurence with your friend?

You should have contacted their support team first if the problem really is on their end and they placed the wrong CPU in your server, instead of going to the Sales Chat and asking to cancel quickly.

If you paid for 2 CPUs and got CPUs, then SoftLayer have done nothing wrong, hence they shouldn't offer you a refund.

If im correct the $189 server is Only 2 CPU cores, however if you create a Support Ticket asking them to check they will be fine and do this for you.

Instead of jumping straight at sales saying you want your money back without checking.

I know what you have done, you've got a woodcrest not a colvertown as they are the same price.

Might you have checked it before you placed the order?

Not certain about $189 as i cant see a server for that price on the site. unless you added extras
for $199 you get

https://www.softlayer.com/order_form...15&ITEM_PRICES[disk0]=19

Single Processor Dual Core Xeon 5130 - 2.00GHz (Woodcrest) - 1 x 4MB cache
and
Single Processor Quad Core Xeon 5310 - 1.60GHz (Clovertown) - 1 x 8MB cache

The same price, depending on what you are doing with it, the Dual core might be quicker

Probably some misunderstanding without checking properly. I suggest you calm down and check properly first

SL will not just "downgrade" you for no reason --- their automated systems would make this a very unlikely (if even possible) occurrence. Are you sure you ordered the correct server? Are you sure your friend wasn't "upgraded"? (Sometimes they will upgrade you if they are out of a particular processor at that moment, though I doubt they would give you additional cores, just a faster core speed.) Either way, sales will happily assist you in correcting the problem --- SL Sales is exceedingly helpful.

Well which one did you choose on that order form? There is an option for a Quad core and Dual Core. If your friend chose the quad core, then he would have 4 cores. If you chose the Dual core, then you would have 2 cores. How much did you pay?

I personally have twice. It's kind of nice surprise to get a faster CPU than you ordered.

If you both got Linux servers, how about you run:
Code:
cat /proc/cpuinfo
and have your friend do the same and post the results here. We can only guess about this until you find out how your CPU configuration differs from your friend's server.

And SL gave me an Opteron 170 way back in the day when I ordered a 165, for no additional charge. They do that sometimes when their hardware stock allows.

Jumping the gun here. Its been 1 day! How can you go and ask their Sales so quickly. Mistakes happen and Softlayer is a very big company.
