Ubuntu or CentOS seem fine, best place to look would be the shoutcast forums over at http://forums.winamp.com

We provide CentOS 5 (previously 4.5) with our shoutcast/cast-control VPS hosting and have not had any problems.

There's only one Linux OS. As far as distributions go, any one of them cane be "lite". Just not out of the box maybe, but they all can be trimmed down.

Debian has probably one of the smaller footprints I've seen.

Centos isnt 'lite' for a shoutcast server i would look at OpenBSD. That is super lite. Its *nix!

Is there a particular reason you want "lite"?

OpenBSD in chroot, with the static linking of the binary it works great. PF can keep the users inline as well.
