You'll find plenty of similar requests for advice regarding live chat software by using the search function....

But since you're asking, I'd recommend StarDevelop's Live Help Messenger.

If your looking for a free one I would recommend Crafty Syntax since it provides more features than Help Center Live. If your getting a paid one Kayako is the way to go.

Live Person is excellent. Huge companies appear to have success with it. QVC uses Live Person and they are about a $10m + a day operation. Not too bad of a price. Very cost effective choice in my opinion. I recall seeing some open source ones a while ago, but unfortunately cant recall them so they must not of made that much of an impression on me. If you are looking for someone to answer the chats for you, then I advise HostechSupport for that. I have used there services personally for years with much success.

I will also recommend you providesupport but the limitation in it is that admin can't ban a specific IP address and it don't generate chat report on per day/weekly bases.

The Kayako LiveSupport chat requires an application to be installed on a Windows desktop.

LiveSupport has not allowed chat through a browser interface since version 2 .

I recently went with ProvideSupport as well for their Mac client. Beats leaving a browser window open all of the time, but they are costly.

I would strongly recommend to have LivePerson. Its easy to answer multiple chats in a single interface rather than opening multiple windows and making ourself confused.Liveperson provided that best interface. So go with that.

It's pricey for more than 1 op.

Using them now. I'm not too happy with the product, I hate the UI. Their customer support is top and even offered us a custom plan for 2 ops rather than 3.

For those who are recommending kayako live chat, I'm surprised you guys are not annoyed by the sound it keeps on making while refreshing the chat every 1-2 seconds. They need to improve that.

If you are on a REAL tight budget, I would recommend Star Develop. Free upgrades for life and unlimited ops and unlimited departments.

If you want real good experience, LivePerson. Almost all big companies use it and because of that they charge a premium, and sure their ops interface is very friendly and the client side is not bad either. They recently changed the client side chat graphics so it looks a little better.

Hell, live person is nice but for more than 1 op I could not justify the cost.

Stardev was so basic, lacked features and I just could not stand it.

Kayako is ok, but lacks in areas.

Provide support UI is a bit horrible, and it lacks features such as ban.

Liveperson was clearly the best one I had used, but it costs far too much for me to use. I'm stuck.

I use triolive from triolive.com. It's simple, customizable, has the options I need for the right price. It has a free and a paid version.

When the client speaks, and the box greys out, doesn't it annoy you? or your client for that matter.

providesupport is good. Their prices are unexpensive and supports a lot of languages. Also I used boldchat for years before. It's easy to use. But I don't like the design of their chat screen and the prices are expensive.

    Switched like this:

Kayako -> Chat Stat (VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL AND ABUSIVE STAFF) -> Provide support (good support, not to keen though) - > TrioLive (was ok, but needs work) -> Kayako.

Kayako is nice, but it doesn't tell me when the client closes the window. It's easy to customize etc, and is very nice.

We have used kayako, provide support, chatstat and live person.

In my opinon it goes like this.

    1. Live person
    2.Provide Support
    3.Kayako

4.Chatstat (Didn't work at all for 27 of the 30 days)

I think I agree with #1, but #2 and #3 are the wrong way around.
