    Midphase for dedicated servers?

So I just got an email promoting their new server plans. I didn't know they offered dedicated servers, but their pricing seems great.

    http://www.midphase.com/html_files/h..._dedicated.php

    Intel Quad-Core Xeon 2.50GHz
    2x250gb
    2gb
    100mbit
    10TB bandwidth
    $280

That price is pretty competitive, especially for 10tb dedicated bandwidth.

I was wondering if anyone has any servers with them? What's it been like?

Would be interesting to know since their main business line is just shared hosting.

    Thanks

MidPhase was purchased by UK2, and that seems to be right in line with their (UK2's) usual offerings.

    Pretty sure its not shared.

It's not shared, you are guaranteed 10TB of transfer per month, we worked out a special deal just for this lineup

Wow, after looking they are Intel Xeon 5420 Hapertown CPU. Not a bad deal at all. My question is, The Hard drives include HW Raid controller for RAID 1 or is it extra?

  7. #7
    Hey guys,

Actually had a mistake on the config. It only comes with 1 250GB drive, additional 250GB drive is $20/mo.

We can however do RAID0, RAID1, RAID5, or RAID10 with up to 4 drives if you really want to go nuts.

UK2 where the first ones to launch an offer like that quite some time ago, back then everyone said we would go under within the week - we are still here though

We have been 'copied' a few times in UK, but in US the standard still seem to be either 2000gb or 'unmetered'.

We thought it could be fun to launch a similar deal in US and we are very please that Softlayer made it possible for us.

I have a few servers at SL myself, makes me think about switching to you, just for the bandwidth deal. It would cost $1000 for 10TB on SL.

No doubt, Midphase has a good reputation at the hosting market today and the number of customers from all over the World can completely approve this fact. Also, for dedicated server I would recommend you to consider the packages of such companies as WHB, Site Valley, Lunar Pages and HostGator!

The only concern I have is, your are primarily a shared hosting company, do you have a separate dedicated support team solely for your new server range? Is there an administration panel/portal for servers, e.g. remote reboot, ticketing system etc?

Midphase has actually sold a lot of dedicated servers over the years, and we have level3 guys on the 800# phone 24/7.

Also www.SupremeSupport.com has been managed by the MidPhase team in Chicago for a few months now. Thats high end server management, with 5 minutes reply SLA's etc.

I'd actually say that the team is excellent and quite experienced at dealing with dedicated servers.

We have dedicated server ticket queues and very fast turn around time for reboots/restores etc.

Our SL api integration is not fully complete yet, but we have cool stuff on the way.

we have bought a lot of servers from Softlayer, and we have managed to get a deal that makes this possible for us.

It is not oversold, and you are welcome to fully utilize your 10TB every month if you like.

How much of the Softlayer services will be available to the MidPhase customers?

For example will the API be usable? KVMoIP? Internal Gbit network?

    Xandrios,

We're developing an in-house application to tie into the SoftLayer API (which will be pretty cool once completed). We can probably get you access to the KVMoIP as well as the Gbit network. (Gbit would require a small upgrade fee).

Clients with more than 5 servers with us would get a direct user setup in the Softlayer administration setup, so they wouldn't have to go through our API's - and they would have access to all the SL features.

Do you mean terabits or terabytes?

And gee, why didn't you guys go with SingleFlop? Er, I mean SingleHop... :-P

    From FixedOrbit:

    ASN Name
    2914 NTT-COMMUNICATIONS-2914
    3356 LEVEL3
    3549 GBLX
    3561 SAVVIS
    12179 INTERNAP-2BLK
    14744 INTERNAP-BLOCK-4

Who knows if the mP dedicated servers go over all those peers, though... I would guess they're using non-Internap bandwidth.

If anybody with a new mP/SoftLayer server has an IP address we could find out.

As it stands, the decision to chose SoftLayer I'm sure was largely based on reseller functionality, which we currently lack (but I might be wrong). Our reseller control panel, and program will be open to partners soon, but we don't have the reseller API's in place like Softlayer has. First for us will be the release of our client side control panel, and then reseller side.

Singlehop are doing a good job with our shared environment, they are good people and they provide us with the flexibility needed.

For our dedicated setup in MidPhase we went with SoftLayer as their featureset were unmatched and we managed to get a deal with them that really enables us to launch a serverline that is pretty much above anything else in the market. Both in terms of prices, features and resources.

That is great news actually. Washington is a perfect location for mixed US/EU traffic. I might just wait for that, I have been looking for a high traffic server in that area for a while. And Internap there is just awesome.

Looking forward to a response to my sales email Guess ill have to wait till monday
