I am just wondering if Google takes into consideration the number of visits when ranging web sites?

It depends if the site is a popular one. Maybe Google can take consideration to it. And if they buy the site... Lol.

Sure they monitor it, but to say that if one listing gets clicked more than another would help your ranking you would be wrong. If that were true then I am sure you will see a lot of spammers trying to improve their results in this manner.

umm i always thought the main key to optimise search engine results was the "keywords"
apparantly google and all the other top search engines go by that
im not sure really but i use some of the smaller free ses site to submit my sites and i seam to get pretty good results straight away

I don't think so, as Google has no way of really knowing how many visitors a site gets (except those using Google Analytics!).

Sure they do. They track clicks off their page to your pages. That is the traffic that we are talking about in this thread.

Except, if this were a true ranking factor then it would be almost impossible to unseat a #1 site since they get the most clicks..
And then you have sites that rank well, but get the majority of their traffic from sources other than Google.. It may be tracked, but they don't have analytics installed on all websites yet..
