All I could say is that what he is doing is completely messed up. It's an extortion.

It does sound like extortion, try to find some help from a lawyer, or if you can't afford consultancy, try a forum for these sort of legal problems on the internet, you should get some information regarding what you can do about this issue.

That wouldn't be legal in the U.S. unless there was a no moonlighting policy in which case you would just have to choose between one or the other (and even that would be questionable).

Contact an attorney immediately. That's extortion and I can't believe that it would be tolerated in the UK.

You could just tell him you sold the company, might be easier.

Just want to say to all thanks for your input!

I have desided to setup a different hosting company then making him a partner with 40% shares in that company wich is not pctank.co.uk! You never give your main business away!

Partnerships are like marriages.... about half of them end in divorce and it is almost always messy.

I have been in business for 10 years.... by myself. I have never considered taking a partner because doing so is asking for trouble in most cases, IMO.

More to the point as a UK resident I would like to know if your permit allows you to do this kind of work. If not why are you abusing the privalage given to you of working in the UK?

Presumably your not or you wouldn't be in your current predicament.
Luckely for you,you have no business address on your site.

But a whois shows

Registrant:
Andrew Brazendale

Registrant type:
UK Sole Trader

Registrant's address:
11A
Bridge Street
Laytonstone
Leatherhead
Surrey
KT22 8BL
GB

If that's your details You better hope the authorities don't get that information or you may find your permit revoked. You might want to make it private.

You need to see what your permit allows you to do, as I don't believe that you would get a work permit just to "design" someone's site.

If you can give a bit more information you would get better advice.

There are situations where you are allowed to work on the side, according to the Home Office web site.

It's probably against the law in the UK for an employer to blackmail a person into doing something by threatening to have their work permit revoked.

MAybe not a good place to send him as the same page clearly states
