Question

Are There Any Security Risk With Having mbstring and mysqli installed on your server?

Hi,

A friend of mine owns a hosting company and a client of his asked to have mbstring and mysqli installed. What he wants to know is , is there any security risks if he does install that on his server?

Also, he wants to know, if there is not, what how does he go about installing that on the server?

Hello,

There is no Large Security Risk with installing both of these. However every change done to a server can add a risk of something oing wrong, however both of the above are installed on 1000's of servers around the world and is quite standard to find on a Hosting Accounts.

To Install depends on the control panel, with Cpanel you would need to rebuild apache and then select to configure PHP and you will be able to Select from the large list of options MBString and MySqlI.

If he needs further help with installing it may be best for him to signup on the forums and make a topic, where someone will be able to give him exact guides depending on his Control Panel and enviorment.

Yes he's using CPanel, and I thought that too, that he just needed to select those in Apache Update and just recompile.

Would that be all he need to do, as I know Apache Update can sometimes fail at times?

Use easyapache in WHM, if that fails, there's a reason for it, you can ask for support from Cpanel or even here.

The latest version of Easy Apache has alot of fail backs on it, meaning if it fails it will normal know why and attempt to fix it and recompile.

However if he has problems it will fall back to the original meaning his sites will still be in operation and then he can contact Cpanel Directly or here. However if he is going to contact the forum, it will be best for him to create an account.
