    Question Hosting and download speed

I'm looking for a server I can host large files on, and enable fast downloads.
The emphasis is on speed. No sophisticated process, therefore no need for really strong CPU.
    Customers from US and Europe

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks,
    Joel

You appear to want a file server.

May I ask what type of files are being hosted?
    Also, what is your budget.

Some things of main consideration :

1.) Network (Cheap or premium bandwidth?)
2.) Hard drive (SCSI or better recommended).
3.) Software (Apache generally isn't the best static file server. Explore options like lighttpd).

Budget is a bit small for a server with high storage space.
Maybe good to tell the disk size you need at least.

We only have 20 movies now, but it may grow to 40 in a couple of months..
No need for huge space, speed is important.

I would suggest the east coast or the "We Dare" datacenter in the Netherlands. Both have excellent global speeds and connectivity.

Well you could try xlhost, I've been with them for almost 2 years and I can't complain... good speed and good support...

Also you could try giga-international (germany located)... they offer unmetered 100mbps ports...

    Good Luck!

The dutch (we dare) don't speak English, and the Germans (Giga) have a nice plan 55 Euro, but they want an additional 40 Euro (monthly) for the cPanel

if you want fast download speeds DO NOT go with giga-international.

On my server I am only getting 35 - 40 kbps and 60 to 70 kbps during germany's late late night time hours.

Check out FDC or red hot servers im considering getting a server with them.

cpanel isnt a MUST, webmin is really good as well very easy to set up yourself too if your provider charges for installation =/

    ahem giga - @_@

Europe or east coast US server sounds like the direction you should lean. Most providers will offer a "test file" to download so that you may test out their speed for yourself. Any providers that you consider you may want to ask for such a link.

Servers in the UK are also quick. Try Rapidswitch.
