    Hosting for <$30 per year

Hey folks, I have a quick question for yah:

Over the past few years, I've been spoiled by promotional offers from Dreamhost (~$20 per year) and Netfirms ($10 per year). My account with netfirms is due for renewal soon, and, ofcourse, they now want $120+ for another year of hosting. I don't think I can open another account because they track credit cards and domains etc...

So my question is, are there any other companies that have similar offers? I've about a dozen domains (friends and family), and I rarely use more than a few GB of traffic (though storage is at nearly 20GB).

    Thanks!

there will be very few giving you 20 GB storage for less than $30, i would suggest that if you are satisfied with the current provider then $120 yearly should not be an issue.

    *sigh*

I guess I'm looking for one of those hosts that blatantly oversell (like dreamhost's 250GB of storage for $20 a year offer). I can deal with unreliable hosts (as these sites are largely non-critical), but I'd prefer an established one (this way the sites may be down once in a while, but at least the company won't go belly-up overnight, taking all my data with it).

Hmm, no recommendation here, just some sites that are known for overselling:
    hostgator.com
    servage.net

I am sure you will get lots of unreliable overselling hosts pretty easy

If a server has a bad crash it also takes your data with it, established host or not, so make sure you have good backups all the time, do not rely on only your host to make them for you.

Why not spend a bit more and get things done right ?

TBH, if you only use a few GB's of transfer, then you only need a few GB's of data

If it's 'personal backup', just get another hard drive.

Have you tried to find a dreamhost coupon for $97 off? Not sure if they track orders though.

hostingpuppy.com has a great program. You get 1GB of space and 10GB of bandwidth for $1. If you want more, its an additional dollar for every additional 1GB of space and 10GB of bandwidth.
They don't have 24/7 support, but 8am-8pm is pretty good, you can upgrade for a fee to 24/7.
    I'm currently hosting with: hostgator

I think surpasshosting.com offers a coupon $1 for 6 months. There was a banner on top of WHT. Keep an eye out for it on top

Pictures (family and friends). That's probably about 95% of the files.

The OP's been a customer, and the coupons work for new customers only. Dreamhost's coupons are limited to $50 in actual discount now.

I've about a dozen domains (friends and family)
Maybe one of them would be willing to sign up for a service and get the much needed discount?

Buy one of those visa giftcards and get another netfirms account.
