Hi,
What is the best free html editing software for people new to web design, but it gives them some (I know not all) abilities like Dreamweaver or Frontpage?
Thanks

I would second nvu...
You could also try:
KompoZer http://www.kompozer.net/
Notepad++ http://notepad-plus.sourceforge.net/uk/site.htm
Oh, and this is a good list:

Microsoft Expression Web offers a 60-day free trial. Maybe try that one as well to see if you would like to purchase it.
Or maybe get something with Peer1. They seem to be offering Expression Web (from their ads on WebhostingTalk Forum)Last edited by Corey Bryant; 03-16-2008 at 12:15 PM. Reason: Added the Peer1 Info

You should learn to do it without programs.
Because programs, doesn't have all that knowledge you can get, and got Limited of Features...
A friend of mine used frontpage on hers, so you can try that.

Yeah, I understood he was looking for free, that's why I suggested the free trial. You never know, the OP might like it and decide it is worth it.
Paying for products and services has always been a habit of mine unfortunately. Sure, I like good deals (a lot) and especially this year since the government is wanting an extra $70,000 for taxes. Now if you could get everyone to give everything away and go to a job every day ad work for nothing, then things might just change

Firstly, this isn't for me, I know how to code. This is for "people" you are "new" to web design. Anyway, thanks for your comments and recommendations

Dreamweaver is definetley popular but probably not the best. I would suggest NVU for a beginner.

to get more excperienced as stated, you're better off using notepad
but for me, I use psPad, its good for any programming writing, and it colours out the tags, comments, elements......etc, the same when coding php, it colours out the variables, strings.....etc to make it easier for you to veiw your coding. Most do that anyway but I find this one inperticular useful for me as it has really useful features that I use & also light on your hard disk

I use Dreamweaver myself but have heard nothing but good comments about NVU.
Or you could learn to code by hand using Notepad.
