    Web 2.0 Hosts?

    I was wondering if there's a list out there of the "trendy" web hosts; where it's cool to be hosted, etc.

    For example:

    Joyent
    A Small Orange

    Maybe these are niche hosts, etc. but it seems people talk about them in the blogosphere.

    Anybody know others?

    Hi

    You can get trendy websites, but what you want to be concentrating on, is a good quality service not a trendy logo.

    I think that all companies can host any web 2.0 sites. Some ofthem have software applications preconfigured, others don't, but the customer still can install them on their own.

    yeah I know, there's nothing really web 2.0 in relation to the server side, but what I mean is the trendy hosts, the new town boppers, that's all.

    Web 2.0 is just another generation of software such as AJAX, or something new.

    In our initial brainstorming, we formulated our sense of Web 2.0 by example:

    Web 1.0 --> Web 2.0
    DoubleClick --> Google AdSense
    Ofoto --> Flickr
    Akamai --> BitTorrent
    mp3.com --> Napster
    Britannica Online --> Wikipedia
    personal websites --> blogging
    evite --> upcoming.org and EVDB
    domain name speculation --> search engine optimization
    page views --> cost per click
    screen scraping --> web services
    publishing --> participation
    content management systems --> wikis
    directories (taxonomy) --> tagging ("folksonomy")
    stickiness --> syndication

    I think he meant those companies focusing most of their marketing towards web 2.0, social networking/video sharing sites. Hosts that focus on marketing their ability to scale and load-balance.

    Here is the list as I see it.

    Mediatemple.net
    Joyent.com
    Amazon.com/aws (Including EC2, S3, SQS, and etc.)
    Mosso.com
    Flexiscale.com
    GoGrid.com
    TheGridLayer.com
    Nirvanix (Amazon S3 competitor)
    SliceHost.com
    EngineYard.com (for the Ruby on Rails crowd)
    Heroku.com (another ROR entry based on Amazon AWS)
    EnkiConsulting.net (uses 3Tera AppLogic like TheGridLayer)
    RightScale.com (uses Amazon AWS and is more so a consulting firm but I thought they should be listed)

    Who do I like (I know you didn't ask me that but I felt like sharing)? Amazon.com/aws, MediaTemple.net, and Joyent.com.

    What would I like to see? Heroku for Django apps.

    Mediatemple.net would be the biggest pushing what I would call "web 2.0 hosting" lots of big blogs have their logos on them. Mashable if I remember correctly has their logo on it.

    I'm in search of a "web 2.6" host. Should be a list somewhere around these boards.
