    * Acunett or Netdepot

Okey I was pretty certain I was going to go with acunett last night, then in a moment of stupidity reread my list and wondered why not netdepot. They offer buydown offers at a cheaper price than netdepot, and even though they don't offer management with it (outsourced) would be about the same price (+- 5$).
So I was between cheaper buydowns vs insource management

Here are my options, or at least what I've considered

    Acunett 229$/month + 470$ setup --managed incl
    • Quad Core Kentsfield Q6600 2.4GHz
    • 2048MB DDRII 667 Ram (Up to 16GB)
    • 2x250GB SATA II 16MB (Up to 4 Drives) (1 included + 1 buydown $220)
    • 2000GB Transfer on a 100MBps port (+10$/month)
    • Raid 0/1 card (buydown $250)
    or
    Acunett 229$/month + 720$ setup --managed incl
    • Quad Core Kentsfield Q6600 2.4GHz
    • 2048MB DDRII 667 Ram (Up to 16GB)
    • 2x36GB Xeon 15K RPM SA-SCSI (300/ea unless they give a discount on the 1st HDD (like netdepot which should be around 170+300)
    • 2000GB Transfer on a 100MBps port (+10$/month)
    • Raid 0/1 card (buydown $250)

    Netdepot =23 174$/month + 415$ setup --unmanaged + 50/65 management5/245
    • Intel C2Q Q660 2.4GHz
    • 2x250Gb HDDs (1 included 1 buydown $113)
    • Raid 0/1 card ($229 buydown)
    • 2000Gbs GNAX Gold bandwidth (100mbit port')
    • Ram 2Gb ($58 buydown)
    • 10Gb back up space
    or even
    Netdepot 174$/month + 797$ setup --unmanaged + 50/65 management =235/245
    • Intel C2Q Q660 2.4GHz
    • 2x36Gb SAS HDDs (+485$ setup 186 1st HDD 299 second)
    • Raid 0/1/5/10 card ($239 buydown)
    • 2000Gbs GNAX Gold bandwidth (100mbit port')
    • Ram 2Gb ($58 buydown)
    • 10Gb back up space
Acunett does offer similar buy down the 36gb sas HDDs are the same price for example but the 74/146 are ~100/250 cheaper respectively on netdepot. Ram is half the price etc...
You have to consider that I'm very likely to upgrade rum fairly soon to 4gbs or higher (depending on performance)

So besides the inconvinience of having to outsource management (either touchsupport or with acunett themselves) netdepot seems to be the better choice on the long run

Anyone knows if you buydown something (ie the HDDs or ram) when you upgrade server they are moved too?

I'll be waiting for your comments thx

PS here is the previous post for more info regarding my requirements etc

It sounds like either way you go, you'll have the management through AcuNett? If the pricing is practically the same, you might as well get the server through AcuNett too. That way they have more control over the hardware management as well, and don't have to jump through communication hoops if you ordered with NetDepot.

If you are planning to upgrade some items fairly soon, then start off paying the monthly fee, then pay the flat fee on the upgraded item.

Transfer of buydown items really depends on the service provider. For example, with The Planet, if you pay $300 or whatever for an extra GB of RAM, it belongs only to that server. So you can't transfer that RAM to another box you might have. Other providers may be more reasonable.

Either way would be fine, it's depended upon your personal opinion on how you go about it. Acunett has been in business for quite a few years.

Assuming the same quality service in each department (i.e. hosting & management), you are definitely better off dealing with one company than two.
