Keep the content on your site up to date and post new content regularly. Search engines will notice your site changes often, and crawl accordingly.

It depends on where your content is linked elsewhere. You could register with a google webmaster account and submit a sitemap of your site. That will kickstart the process. It will also allow you to track stats about your site.

I suspect you're pretty small in terms of content size, but if you have many many pages such as a large forum, making sure your servers can handle the load is helpful as well. Google will let you know if it's encountering any issues in that department in their Webmaster Tools section.

On topic, if you know a site that is updated regularly, therefore crawled regularly, and can get them to link to your site, it will speed up the process. When their site is crawled, yours will be too! 2 for the price (?) of 1.

Also, like others have said, you should keep your content changing and up to date.

Build more backlinks in frequently crawled sites - this will help your site get crawled often as well paired with updated content.

One thing I have found is registering for a free Blogspot.com account then link it to your website, helps in getting your website crawled quite quickly. Guess it helps when Google owns it.
