I assume this is pretty big:
SoftLayer has partnered with Internap and 365 Main for datacenter space that will accommodate 350 cabs (15,000 servers)

Just as I expected. Their current network picture (Seattle - Dallas) looked to be ready for a 3rd datacenter on the east coast, so that it would form a half moon.

    Next pitstop: Europe! .

    Getting bigger and better.

I also can't see them offering colo anytime soon - they like having things automated and all the same - colo won't allow them that, and, would push costs up as a result.

Really the server provder to watch in 2008 I think!

Cool. I bet they'll soon create their own transit network throughout the country.

Isn't the growth a bit too rapid for comfort though? I don't recall any other server provider growing so fast.

Well unlike other providers, they have been hiring new staff as needed and I have yet to see a decline in their support due to the growth it just keeps getting better actually

The title of this thread should be "Softlayer will expand to its fourth datacenter" because Softlayer operates 2 data centers in Dallas.

IMO Softlayer was planned from the ground to be a large company. Several months before the provider was launched was formed a team of 13+ executives with great experience in the industry in all related fields backed by venture capital. This dream team designs and implements every detail with the mission to improve/innovate each area. This orientation results Softlayer has real competitive advantage. With the help of its powerful software systems and innovative architecture, Softlayer is just duplicating its DC model at different locations as Google and many others are doing. It is not an unexpected move or grow in a disorganized manner or criss-cross pattern.

Other than the recent power issue a month or so ago (which didn't affect everyone by the way) I hadn't had any downtime in probably over a year at Softlayer.

I feel sorry for the commute their Wash. DC employees are going to have to endure...Main reason we went with Ashburn among other things.

Anywhoo, good luck to the SoftLayer empire!

I wish they offered stock... looks like we'll all have to wait for an overpriced IPO.

Like any other typical .com I'm sure it'll IPO and be way overvalued for a company that doesn't turn a profit.
