Server setup help

I installed Windows Server 2003 on a spare computer, Pentium 4 2.00GHz 760 MB of Ram. I have been looking allover google on how to setup a DNS server so that I can run my Clothing Companies website from home. Are there any guides that can help me from setting up DNS server to having the website appear online? I have been trying to set up this server for about a week now and still no luck. when I ping 68.109.88.131 it comes back successful and when I enter that in, in a url, the "Under Construction" page comes up. Any suggestions??

Thanks,

xx66stangxx

Hello

Check in IIS that you only have one website with 68.109.88.131 (port 80) enabled.

If your running this from home, i recommend hosting the DNS with someone else (ie the domain registrar may offer it free) and just point the WWW and * (A Records) to your IP. that way when someone types www.your-domain or http://your-domain or http://ANYTHING.your-domain it will point to your home IP.

Not sure about any dns for dummies guides, but I've browsed through microsoft's whitepapers and they're pretty good. Do a search on microsoft.com

Hi xx64stangexx, Do what cyberhostpro suggested. Keep your domain with your registrar and make some A Records that point "WWW", "*", "@" to your home IP. unless you plan on having a lot of Domains, not worry about hosting your own DNS server.

You have to install the DNS service specifically. Go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel, then select Windows Components. It'll be under Application Servers I believe. Once installed, you should see a new MMC snap-in or direct access to the console from Administrative Tools.
