Should not my host know the IP class?
I have a reseller account with HG. They provide a shared IP
to all the domains for that account. All I want to know what
class of IP that is. Should not they give a reply in an one-liner?
Or it is just that I am being stupid?

A single IP isn't a class. Like this:
255.255.255.xxx is not a Class.
(A) (B) (C) (D)
A class is a group. So if you had this:
255.255.255.x1
255.255.255.x2
255.255.255.x3
255.255.255.x4
255.255.255.x5
255.255.255.x6
That would be a set of Class D IP's, as only the D class is changed.
Now:
255.255.255.XX
255.255.253.XX
255.255.251.XX
That is a set of Class C IP's, as you can see in the bold, 255.255.255.XX it is different every time.
This is a set of Class B IP's
255.251.XXX.XX
255.252.XXX.XX
255.253.XXX.XX
As I said to you earlier on their forums, a single IP can't be a class, a class is a group of IP's which share the same classes.
Class D IPs have the same A, B, and C class, but different D class.
So A.B.C.D, A,B,C will be the same for a group of D class IP's, but the D will be different.
With C Class IP's, both the C and D may be different, however the A and B will be the same.
Here is some google reading material for you. It should clear up any confusion you have.

Cody Salter I got the answer from your post on HG forums. Its a Class D IP. Thanks. That was the one-liner I was looking for. Thanks for the explanation also.

Yes, for the regular reseller accounts, they will be D class. If you wanted different C Class IP's, you would need their seohosting package.
