    Access times

Hi all new to the forum. Not sure if this is the right place to post this but here goes

Ok here is my question. We host around 40 websites that have hundreds of pictures. I have 60gigs dedicated to pictures alone. since we are getting more clients I want to get a bigger hard drive just for the pictures. Since my boss is obssesed with user access times, as in users accessing the pictures on the web on their end, he thinks getting a bigger hard drive will slow down the server and hence slow down access time serving out the pictures to end users. I guess what I'm saying is does a bigger hard drive slow down a website?

Let me know if you need clarification I wasn't sure how to word this.

    THanks in advanced.

    Hello

I don't think it is possible when there is a bigger hard disk.
The speed of the site will not depends on the size of the hard disk .
It is depends on the memory

It depends if the hard drive is an upgrade or not, for example, if your going from a 147GB 15k drive to a 500 GB 7.2k drive it might be a little bit slower.

Yes ,We can use hard drive just for storing pictures. But if you want to see a picture from the hard drive , it needs more memory usage so the RAM goes to hang.

well its on a dell poweredge server so the hard drive is raid and what i wanted to do was move to a 150gig HD instead of the 60 i have now. Do you think the access time we slow down enough so the user would notice? or is it negligable?
We average around 100hits an hour.

Thread move to Technical & Security Issue, as it might get the attention of more members who are well versed in these matters.

You might want to go into more detail regarding the system you're using now and the system you plan to upgrade to.
