I have several servers in two different cities. I wanted to setup some sort of software on each server to monitor the other servers. Is there any good software out there that can acomplish this? What about UPS systems that will notify the system admin when the server is down and then reboot the server when power is restored?
I love Netsaint. Will soon be nagios. Basically anything you can think of can be a plug in. I read on their mailing list that some guys use it to even monitor server room temperature. I have it set up so that when http response is terribly slow (indicating that it is either not up or terribly bogged down), it will run a restart script. In all honesty, the app has save me a lot of trouble, also I have it do a lot of my work for me For example. I have some machines with virtual servers. I tells me when a client has gone over quota often letting me notify the client or correct the issue without the client calling me all upset
